I've been putting this off for quite some time, but it needs to be done. I drove it a little while back and sadly had to come to this conclusion. With the severe rheumatoid arthritis it is painful for me to even drive this Patrol, let alone attempt to work on it. It's doing no good simply sitting. I'm putting it here first before I decide where to list it later. Total procrastination, I really hate to let it go.
Up for sale is my 1979 Nissan Patrol extra long bed ute/pickup. The extra long bed was offered for one year only, 1979, the last year for the series. This is one of two known operable vehicles to exist in the world; the other was spotted in Thailand. One of two Patrol pickups with bed/tub located in the US; the only RHD one. 62769 original kilometers on the clock, verified by documentation dating back to the original owner. That's 39,000 original miles before you reach for a converter.
This truck is the epitome of Australian outback. With the monstrous bull bar and the natural patina it just looks rugged. I'm not going to try and convince anyone that it's pretty, because it isn't. It's got character for days though. Unmolested body, no cancer rust anywhere, just surface. Some dents but nothing major, it adds to the character. The bed is in excellent condition as far as the metal, it hasn't been bashed with heavy stuff dropped in the bed. Original AM radio. Everything works, all the lights, even the heater.
It has a custom built 4 speed transmission. The original owner had this built and installed after driving the truck for a couple of years. Four wheel drive works perfectly. The carb is a Stromberg carb that runs perfectly. It has water cooled extractors/headers (that leak water) and electronic ignition. This coupled with the tall wheels and tires allows this truck to comfortably cruise the freeway at 70 MPH. It cranks a little bit to start after it has been sitting for a few months, but it never fails to start unless the gasoline in the tank has gone bad. The battery even holds a charge surprisingly long, allowing it to start after sitting several months.
There is a packet of documentation from previous owners, including schematics made by the original owner. Also included is an owners manual and a service manual.
It's nearly impossible for me to put a price on this vehicle. The total rarity of the vehicle applies a lot of weight to the price. The details of obtaining it and getting it here also add weight as well as sentimental value. Clear California title, registration is current but in non-op status. Asking $18,000. PM me for a chat if you'd like to discuss it. Feel free to ask questions here or via PM.
Here is the post on the truck; there are a couple brief videos there: Extra Long Bed Pickup
