Patrol in Colorado

Patrols for sale

Postby plateaucal » Sat Jul 10, 2021 10:04 am

I ran into this Patrol a few days ago in Western Colorado. The owner, Dwayne, was out working on it an gave me the low down. It had been sitting for a while in a local car hoarders yard. He found out that it was scheduled for the scrap yard and managed to pry it away from the jaws of death. It is a 67 or 68 I think. Dwayne says the vehicle used to be owned by a Telluride business man and was used exclusively there. He thinks that the 16,000 miles on odometer are authentic. I looked it over and here is my assessment.

It started right up and purred like a kitten. Smooth and quiet. The engine bay is basically untouched. The rest of the vehicle looks very original. The body is the worst part. Good dents on the rear right quarter and front fender. The marker lights are mostly gone. The bumperettes are smashed and the front bumper is a little mangled. The only rust that I saw was at the rear in the usual area and has affected the interior bed somewhat as well. The interior is complete and he states that everything works. The headliner has fallen away. Seats look good. Floor pans up front look good. I should have taken more pics. The brakes need work. No title. No leaks.

He called me yesterday and says he is interested in selling it. He is in hid mid seventies and does not want to tackle the job. He stays pretty busy fixing local vehicles as that is his trade. He asked my what a fair price might be. I thought maybe between $5k and $7k; Assuming there is no fatal issues with the frame or such. I told him I would post this up and see what the general consensus is on pricing, knowing the expert here might have a thought or two.

Attached is photo and I will try to get more. Thoughts anyone?

Price sounds fair. Definitely need more photos, but if it runs and pulls thatis a big plus. You might want to determine how much trouble the title will be. Is the VIN tag still on the firewall in the engine bay behind the engine?

Does the frame and engine numbers match what is on the ID tag?

More pictures would definitely help. If it runs well but just needs the usual work I would think $7000 would be a minimum.
Beyond any hope for intervention

What did the door used to say? Someone might have taken the other door for their man cave.

Umm, yah. Cool you noticed that. It appears that I must stop by for another visit. The door is interesting, on both sides.

The owner will be sending photos soon which I will repost. He is finishing work on the brakes. This should be a good rig for someone who does not mind doing some minor body work. When I get the photos, I will post his phone # with them. BTW, thanks again, Dwayne was pretty happy to get some part #'s from me which I found on the "Compatible parts list". If he wasn't 75 years old (with 60 years as a mechanic) he would be online with us. It's a pleasure to meet a guy that has no "online presence" or interest thereof.
