Two 60 Patrols breaking down in 24 hours ?!? I'd wager that hasn't happened since the 70's !

Technically not a breakdown as it made it halfway back in the driveway after the 30 mi or so trip through the monsoon. But certainly out of character.

RP - can you say a bit more about why the flame thrower coil is a marginal idea and what problems might develop. It’s the coil that Petronics recommends with the sensor unit, but I’m thinking it’s total overkill for the P engine. I was an automotive engineer out of college and hotter spark does not equate to better combustion. Once ignited, which does not take much energy - but the timing must be perfect - the combustion process proceeds on its own.

I went back through some recent posts about cold issues to refresh my memory, and it seems you would be okay with the Pertronics coil. I think what I was remembering as an issue was someone had an MSD box that was causing the coil to burn out. Others have had good luck with the Pertronics coil, so have at it.

Just gotta match the coil to the ignition system...I'm not familiar with the Pertronix add-on but if it's a fixed dwell angle type like the original points ( and my Piranha electronic ignition ) then an old style coil is the go, whether it's the oil filled cylinder or transformer format...if it's a fixed dwell time type then the coil will need to be one of the newer ones for more modern distributor electronic ignitions with a faster charge rate...an MSD system will need a fast charging, more robust coil to deal with the heat generated from the extra sparks, usually with a heatsink around it.

If you use an old type coil in a fixed dwell time system you'll get a weak spark and using a modern electronic ignition coil in a fixed dwell angle system will burn it out.

Well I just finished the last upgrade to my 69 patrol that I restored last summer. please don't be mad stock patrollers. But I moved back up to Michigan and we have some great dunes and mud so I wanted to make it HWY and trail worthy. I added a SBC 350 with 700R4 Auto transmission in her and she fit like a glove then took the front 12" off of a Jeep YJ and cut 12" off the patrol front frame and fab them together in order to use the disc brakes, power steering and steering linkages worked awesome. Plus, Jeep parts are much cheaper and easier to find. I then added a 4.5 YJ lift on it (leaf's, shocks) with 33" tires. That's all stuff that sits under the body. I really wanted to keep everything on the outside stock looking and I think I accomplished that. Gotter done in 6 weeks and drive it everyday it's amazing how many people stop and take picture and say (I never heard of a Nissan Patrol)

just more pics. centered the gas tank for dual exhaust. Tranny mount. and the 1 minor cut to the engine compartment to be able to get to the last header bolt in. that's the only cut I had to make for the fitting of this motor.
