Here are some recent photos of the rebuild. Red color code 529 is beginning to take over the body:

Just from all the questions he has asked and parts that he has collected, I know this is going to be a stellar restoration job. :handgestures-thumbupright:

Some pictures seem to be missing though. Early pics show the rear fenders were cut, now the paint picture show the fenders as they should be. Did you find a new tub or have the body work done?

I notice in the early pictures there was a very 70's shag carpet lining the tub. Please share with us what you used to remove the carpet glue left after removing the carpet. I have the very same carpet in my Oz ute and don't know what to use on the carpet glue.

It's really looking great. I can't tell from the pictures but are you using a rough finish on the underside, like other early Datsuns had?

Keep up the good work. Can't wait to see the engine!

Leslie,
Regarding the rear quarter panels, I had the quarters removed from the 1965 Patrol and grafted on this project. The underbody is indeed coated with a light undercoating, the same thickness and texture as on my 240Z. When the frame was sandblasted, I had the tub also blasted, this removed any carpet adhesive. I was worried about the body panels warping, and was pleased that they did not deform. (You may have success with lacquer thinner on your project.) The passenger fender has the most damage, via the mirror mounting holes. I purchased fenders from a 1967, but they lacked the inner support and had the small turn signal hole. We decided it would be best to repair the original fenders. I had the radio hole that the PO cut in the dash repaired. It is a project that is progressing slowly as I am trying to find the correct parts.

I think that's a great idea going with the undercoating. It will definitely prolong the life of your paint and body panels. Your body man does great work; the fenders turned out very nicely. I understand about the difference in fenders, one of those Patrol surprises - changes between years. Nice job!

Note: the color of the body is 524 Pagoda Red and the engine is Nissan Engine Blue. (The florescent shop lighting distorts the colors.)

That is looking pretty awesome. The dust on it distort the color a bit also. Very nice body work. :handgestures-thumbup:
