Kids + cars = outrageous insurance rates, for a reason. So sorry to hear this! Glad Joe is okay. I recall that my sister totaled the families '65 Mustang, and I totaled my first car, a '67 Cougar within a week of getting it in '79. My brother totaled a '57 Chevy panel wagon. Of course we were all fine, but the cars weren't. Kids are rough on cars, even when they were built tougher.

No surprise that you are considering moving some of the herd, I've been thinking the same for a while now also. Best of luck with that.

Well, there is a reason why modern cars use dual master cylinders... Luckily Joe was not hurt. But I'm heartbroken...

:o Ouch! It hurts to look at it! Glad Joe wasn't hurt! I'm heartbroken for you too! :(

I don't know that I could blame the single circuit master, unless it wasn't working. When everything is adjusted and working correctly, I can bark the tires slamming on the brakes.

I don't know the cause yet, but the pedal happily goes to the floor at this point! We won't be driving it until I figure it out and fix it!

I've got one from a '67 that has the correct removable grill - '68 and later had the integrated grill. Also available.

We started the reconstructive surgery this week -- Well, the take apart, wonder and worry phase! The bumper is a mess! A friend is going to take a hack at straightening the bumper... it's pretty stretched, but who knows! Also the radiator support is pretty banged up.

Even more excitingly, I learned that the engine & trans moved a whole bunch during the bump!
The alternator pulley smacked the radiator shroud

The fan dug into the radiator a little... no leaks from it and the fan seems solid.

And, the most worrying thing -- The shifter briefly moved forward a couple inches.

The engine mounts appear undamaged -- Could the rubber stretch that far?

Wow! :o :shock: That's a whole lot of movement! I've seen similar damage on radiators and shrouds, never paid much attention. Guess I know why now. Radiator core moving backward due to tree, engine moving forward due to inertia. The shifter movement is a surprise.

Well, on another note, my neighbor popped by with the semi-repaired bumper. A whole bunch of stretching to the metal. Despite being much, much straighter, it's still really rough.

But, since he wasn't satisfied with the bumper, he got a little crazy and made one from scratch! What a fantastic surprise! It's like Xmas morning!

On a related note -- I need some good close-ups of the lower mounts on an original bumper. The ones on our little Patrol were super mangled!
