Nice to see some renewed interest from the kids. Congrats on the new grandson. Makes me realize I have been on sabbatical from mine for too long now.

A lot later into the summer that I would have liked, but Decapitation 2017 has happened! Went for a topless drive with most of the family this evening! Aerogirl ran fantastic!

That's one of the Patrol's endearing qualities; you can neglect it for months but when you do finally go to start it they run great. 8-)

So... I probably should fix the gas gauge. We ran out of gas driving home Sunday morning... I could'a sworn that there should have been a few gallons left. I think it's my first out-of-gas experience in 30-years. Oops. Luckily Joe was willing to run the 2 miles home and grab the lawn mower gas and drive it back to us. Joe was something like 12 when we got the Patrol. He's 16-1/2 and has his license now... and begs to drive the Patrol (uh... no...)!

Out of Gas... Doh!

On a semi-related note. We were heading home from a family brunch to get ready for Jay's show. He did a great summer music program with the local music store (Skip's Music). The kids audition for the program and then are grouped into bands and are tasked with writing two original songs and learning one cover song. Then the program has the big show at an outdoor amphitheater in Rocklin, CA (with about 1,000 folks attending!) -- Anyway, we needed to get him to the venue in time when I ran us out of gas. No stress there!

Little-Jay, Big-Jay!

Not only did Jay Rock the show, but the program asked him to play in TWO bands! Next week each of his bands gets to record one of their original songs in a professional recording studio. I'm a proud dad!

Sounds like a lot of fun - What would life be like without a little drama along the way. Now you have a really cool story as well that you will undoubtedly be talking about for years to come.

If the Patrol engines get any more rare, Babbitting may be our last resort!

This article about babbitting bearings is cool!

Faux40,
Thank you for that little blast from the Babbitt past. Faulty fuel gauges on Patrols will get your attention.....sooner or later. Hopefully it is the sending unit. If it isn't, then APT Instruments can fix the gauge. I sent the gauge up to them on CCV5 Saturday. They did a great, but expensive, job on CCV4 last year.

KABOOM!

A few weeks ago, it was something like 233 degrees Fahrenheit here in the Sacramento area... Well, it was really only 114 degrees Fahrenheit (that's 45.5 degrees Celsius in case you swing that way!).. but that's really, really hot around these parts. Shortly after, I noticed that our Patrol was sitting kinda lopsided... Turns out that the heat caused the left rear tire to literally explode! I coulda sworn that I'd taken a picture of the shredded tire, but I can't find it! Anyway, the tread separated from the tire for several inches and there were tire chunks laying about! It was ugly. I'm glad that it didn't happen while driving... that would have been bad.

Today, we got Aerogrl some new shoes! Just about had to take a second mortgage to buy them... but they look, and ride nice!

I chose to stick with these (235/75R15) rather than go larger... I would have liked slightly taller tires, but not any wider. I like the old cookie cutter look. The next size in the same tire would have been 1" taller AND 1" wider. I think I made the right choice!

Happy Monday!

Tires really look great!!!

I'm taking note of the tire size and brand you've installed.

Glad to know that the tire blew up with the Patrol stopped and nobody nearby.
