Some exciting stuff around these parts of late --
So, this old gate -- Really, it is a gate. Just a very difficult one to use. Since redoing the driveway, we simply screwed a fence section over the gate opening. It's heavy and hard to open or close. Requires at least two people and about 15-minutes to move! In other words, meet the Hotel Calidriveway. Cars can check in, but they can never leave! Mwaaaa!
There's also the picket fence up the side. Part has been extended simply by slapping taller boards on the old -- and I mean way, way old and rotten as you can easily see in the picture -- section of fence.
For the past couple of weekends, I've created a nice rolling gate. Still looks like a fence section, but with a simple push (by 1 person in about 15-seconds!), cars may come and go as we please! Yay!
Proof! It really does open!
Next, Jay and I spent some time ripping out the old picket fence stuff -- and forest of vines! Lots of spiders too!
Then then we sistered up the verticals and tied in the sections together with treated 2x4s in hopes it will last longer than we do!
(the wire is temporary dog-proofing -- Give 'em a potential escape and they'll go exploring!)And, last evening Aerogirl put her top back on in a big hurry!
Of course, it wasn't due to modesty or even rain. It was because we needed more driveway space! Actually, the top isn't even bolted up yet, but it's on --
BTW, it's way easier to put the top on with four full-sized humans doing the work! So, why the hurry to put the top on?
Because modern cars are wimpy! We pulled into a parking space with just the driver on board and backed out with a four full-sized humans in the little car. What this did was lower it down a bit. Say, a bit lower than the parking-stop curbs (you know the stupid little things that keep you from pulling too far into the parking spot). Anyway, when backing up, there was a tiny crackle (and I emphasize "tiny") and the whole freekin' front end fell off! Ouch! Actually, the damage looks much worse than it is. A couple ripped out plastic tabs and some scratches (you can see one sticking up on the upper close-side of the bumper). Shouldn't be too difficult to fix... I hope!
Or, I suppose I could attach a massive Patrol bumper -- You know, the kangaroo catcher type of full-face bumper on it!Maybe someday soon I'll find time to actually work
ON our Patrols instead of just
NEAR our Patrols!
Happy Monday!John
