Paul's 1967 Restoration

Builds, refurbishments, restorations, upgrades

Postby pdub » Sat Apr 11, 2015 2:58 pm

Since most of you seem to have named your patrols I finally came up with one. Since mine sat in the desert for 20 plus years, and when hosing out my frame and rat poo and shredded newspaper came out I have named it "Desert Rat" I finally got the rear end cleaned and painted and set in place. Installing brakes next. I was licke it looked like the brakes were changed just before the long hibernation. I just blasted and painted the shoes. I ordered all new wheel cylinders from Australia.

Looks really good, well done! And Leslie that is one super cool picture of the guy polishing the front fender. Never seen that one before.

I was cleaning the front axel getting it ready for paint when I flipped it upside down and found one of the spring pad holes was hogged out big time. I sent a text to Robert and he led me to a post he made on the same issue. I ground the hole bigger to fit a grade 8 washer and welded it in. Problem solved :D

Well here is today's crazy patrol find. When I went to drain the front diff. I got about 50% 90wt oil and 50% grease dripping out. Looks like the prior owner pumped grease into the diff. Had to spend a bunch of time trying to wipe off as much grease as I could from the gears and case. Anyone else seen this?

Ewww, never encountered that on any car. Maybe it was special whine-reduction grease :D
