Setting them up and knocking them down.

JEGS guys were fantastic. Here's the recommendation (their smallest diameter booster):

Booster: https://www.jegs.com/i/JEGS/555/631700/10002/-1
Master Cylinder: https://www.jegs.com/i/JEGS/555/631390/10002/-1

I also needed to get an extension rod for the brake booster. The welded up do-dad that was on the booster will not be reused.... :violin:

Jegs had a kit, but I decided to go to McMaster and get some high strength steed rod and a better clevis. We'll see how it all turns out. While at JEGS, I also got some new ball fittings so that a proper throttle /carburator connection can be made.

I'm an accountant by trade, so all of this mechanical stuff is new to me. I really appreciate all of the help from the Forum on this project. It's all coming together.... (I hope).

Excellent help! That booster looks perfect.

I've used the following master cylinder that I think is a better choice:

RAYBESTOS MC36399

https://www.rockauto.com/en/parts/raybe ... inder,1836

The outlets are facing the engine, so they are in the same position as the original cylinder. It is also 1", and only $34. Maybe they can have something similar.

Application:
FORD BRONCO: 1976-1977
FORD: E-100, E-150, F-100, F-150, F-250 from 1975-1976

i had the same thought on the brake line connections. despite those reservations, i did order it. If it doesn't look like it will work after doing a dry fit, will look for an alternative. The connecting brake lines are showing their age, so will be replacing them as part of this effort.

Can you post the part number for this linkage?

Thanks.

I got the package in from Jegs last night. I don't know if the ball fittings will work. They look to be a bit on the long side. The rest of the parts for the brake booster/master cylinder are coming today. I'll provide an update over the weekend as my goal is to get that piece along with all of the plumbing, out of the way.

So, I have had to halt Patrol activities while we repair this roof issue that has been plaguing us all year. It's amazing how difficult it is to find and schedule contractors. With some luck, we'll get that buttoned up by the end of this weekend. I did however receive a phone call from Rafael who is beginning to tear into the axles. He said it was one of the nastiest things he has done in recent memory. That's a lot coming from a guy who deals with nasty stuff all day every day.

He said that I need to try to find a new gear set for the front axle. I need some help from the forum on this one. I have the axles that are currently on my Patrol (I sent him the axles from the chassis that I tore down last year). Wondering if the gear set from one of my existing axles will work? When I bought my Patrol, it was listed as a 1973, but I have found that it is somewhat of a frankenstein car, with a mish mash of parts, mostly from Patrols I think. The axles that I sent him are from a 1967. Second question is can I harvest the gear set from my rear axle to be used in the front axle? That would be much much easier than dealing with the knuckle assemblies.

If i can't harvest gear set from my Patrol, does anyone have ideas on where I could find a set?

Rafeal said he had pictures. Once I get them, I'll post.

Thanks all.
Don.

Don,the differential gear set is totally interchangeable between front and back, and across all the years.

I've swapped the front to the rear a couple of times, and once from a 67 to a 74. If you pull one out, make sure to include all the shims as a set. In a case like that, you just install it back at the new housing with the same shims.

Rafael will probably want to install new bearings. I will post how I solved this when I refreshed the bearings 5 years ago, since the carrier bearings are not available and the ones similar are ~3mm less in width. With 5k driven they're tested and good to go.

Can you post the chassis number and engine number on yours? That will give a good clue of what year your Patrol is.

Thanks Esteban,
The chassis number is LG60 345777. I'll have to get the number off of the engine.

Good to know on the axles and shims. Given my level of experience, I would have probably tossed the shims. I suspected that they were all the same, but wanted to make sure. I bought 2 complete bearing and seal sets from 4WD products in Australia a while back, so I'm hoping those are a good match. One of the reasons I sent them to Rafael is because he's seen these before on L60Boerne's Patrol, so this shouldn't be the first time he is seeing this set up.

So now the Patrol will really be out of commission until these get done. I will try to get it up on Jack stands this weekend and pull the rear axle so that I can get the gear set to Rafael. I'm hopeful that this will go more quickly since I had accumulated a fair amount of the parts in advance. I'm sure there will be something though. I'm curious to see the pictures - apparently the gear set in the front is pretty corroded, even though there was oil in the housing.

The above number looks like it has on extra number. Probably the #3 doesn't belong there. The 74 Patrol I had years ago had a 48898 chassis number, so a 45777 will make sense for your 73. Juns in case, the engine # was P108648 on mine.

Don, I am bringing back the axles than Plateaucal gave me in a couple of weeks. Maybe it is best for Rafael to just rebuild those or at a minimum use the parts but I would like to keep them complete so if a front gear set shows up lets work it into the plan. Either way, your build will be on track soon.
