my 1967 patina project build

Builds, refurbishments, restorations, upgrades

Got started back on putting the front axle together. The knuckle bearings were pretty much shot, ordered a pair of new 30304A bearings. I had purchased some later model knuckle seals to try but they were smaller diameter. My original seals still looked and felt okay so I refused them.

Excellent progress. The pictures are great!

What was the condition of the “cones” that go at the top, and of the matting surface? Do you have a picture of them?

Later models have bearings at top and bottom.

I did not take any pics of them but I was able to crop the photo but not sure they show much detail. The had some wear but the cone and the tapered bushing both looked smooth with no uneven wear.6374

It has been a busy spring so far and I have not been able to work in the garage as much as I had hoped. It might only get worse in the next few months but I was able to get a little something done over the weekend. Go the axle back together and started installing the disc brake conversion I made earlier this year. I have posted some details of the build in the modification area of the forum.6376

Looks great! The disk brake conversion looks like an original equipment.

Where did you source the front axle nut socket that apoears in the last picture?

I think that is the first one that I bought for my land cruiser. It is a 55mm socket. The land cruiser actually uses a 54mm.

Most likely got it on ebay. You can buy SAE size axle sockets too.

Started back working on taking pieces off the Patrol. Got the motor and rear axle out and found some new-ish leaf springs. Not sure what the part number goes back to but is was not the same number as my parts catalog.
