Got the intake/exhaust manifold back from the machine shop last week. The exhaust surfaces had some pitting and the middle two ports were showing a low spot. I was able to search through my small collection of manifolds and find two good alignment collars, I am sure the have a formal name but not sure.

I need to make some room so I could tackle the HEI distributor install on my Land Cruiser so I got it bolted up to the engine.

For some reason I did not install the water shut off valve for the heater before I installed the head and well I guess i do not possess that SST (special service tool) to install after the fact... Oh well guess I don't need it anyway!

Well, with 261 replies showing on my forum page I guess it is time to discuss where the carb on my Patrol and most other later Patrols that did not come with the Hitachi Carb... it uses a Rochester Carb that was built for the 1960-1962 Chevy 261 inline six used in larger trucks and busses. I have my original Rochester B Carb part number 7015013, and an extra bowl and base. The 261 carb has a larger diameter throat on the base and larger venturi on the bowl. The 261 measures 1-11/16 while similar period 235 had 1-9/16 throat on the base. The venturi on the 261 was 1-15/32 and for the 235 it was1-11/32 I believe. The jets are also larger for the 261 at .063 vs .056 for the 235, sizes for jets vary depending on whose article you are reading.

I found what I believe to be the original carb in the back of the Patrol when I purchased it. The breather was missing though, but a parts truck I purchased had a black one in it. Fortunately it had a later model breather as the parts truck was an early model. The earlier models did not have a bolt hold down from what I have seen in my research. They had a clamp that kept the Carb and breather secured and did not have a hole or strengthening ribs stamped into the carb end.

I purchased a carb and gorgeous light blue breather from a guy selling a bunch of parts from a 1967 on Ebay several years ago. The tag also said it was a #7015013 but at the time I did not know what to look for, I just figured a B carb was just like any other B carb. The carb turns out to have the smaller throttle body bore and the base is stamped 26019 makin it a 7026019 which means it is actually a 1970's carb. There is a also a ghost image of a sticker on the body, guessing it was a rebuilt carb and I have read that it is common for the tag to not really match the base and bowl. I recently purchased a carb on Ebay that appears to be a new old stock original carb in the correct gold anodize not the silver that is seen on most rebuilds. The bowl on the NOS carb has part number 7005604 and the base is stamped 15013 which are both correct for the 7015013 carb.

I have also swapped out the oil bath filter in preference to regular dry paper filter elements. I am using 2 Kohler air filters that I found in the compatible parts list, thank you River and others! They are part numbers #24 083 03-S and #47 083 0S.

Here is where I found some of my information on the differences, just incase I remembered it wrong... here is the truth! :D

Well 7026019 is for a 1963-67 Chevy GMC truck with 230 or 250 inline six cylinder. The top of the carb is not correct for the 1963-67 Chevy GMC but is correct for the Patrol or earlier 1960-62 Chevy with 261. The Patrol inlet comes out the side while the later 1963-67 come out the front and would require the fuel line to be modified.

That NOS carb sure is a good looking piece! :) And thanks for posting the info on the dry filter elements -- I had not thought about converting mine, but now that I know there is an easy swap I'll probably do it.

If you still haven't found the right carb I have a newly rebuilt Rochester (should be a B, but I really don't know, RiverPatrol might) that fit Punkin/Pinto Patrol (66 yr) if it would help you. I'm only willing to risk my life on the VC42 or the NAPA Rochester clone, as I will do so again on a shear hill climb again this weekend on the 06. In fact I have a number of Rochesters and surely one would help you, but I can put my hands on the newly rebuilt one this week, if you need it.

That carb is definitely a Rochester B carb, freshly rebuilt by moore_rb. I couldn't say precisely which it is, I didn't pay any attention to the stampings.

Still finding other people's projects to keep my time filled, but after hanging some drywall in a friends basement this morning I found some time in the garage to finish up a project started on the 4th. I think I am finished with the building stage of the new alternator bracket. I had two slightly mutilated brackets but both were not suitable for my needs. The top left is from one of the parts trucks and had been modified to work with a non stock generator. The top right was highly abused to to rig an alternator on my 1967 project. I wanted something a little nice and made the lower one. I mounted a GM style bracket and slotted the holes on my bracket so I could get belt alignment correct.

The stock belt which is 48-1/4 is too short, but I had a spare belt for my Land Cruiser that was 50-1/8. I might check to see if there is a 49-1/4 inch belt available.

Looks good! I've seen a few backyard variations of brackets over the years, that is certainly the cleanest.
