1969 Patrol Transmission Swap is Happening!
The process has begun. In my previous posting, http://60patrol.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=21&t=5406 ...I promised that a modern 5-speed transmission swap was happening. Though there's actually not that many of us following it, I'm sure most of you believed it would never happen and it would fall by the wayside like so many others before it. But like all of history's bravest men, I've charged headlong into a boondoggle the likes of which few have ever seen. All the parts have been ordered at an astounding cost...and the process of discovery has begun. Will it work? Can it even be done? Is it all just a gigantic waste of time and money!? Well...hard to say. I'm already starting with a different engine, but at least it's still an inline six. Regardless of what you're dealing with, this project will show you what happens when a man with limited knowledge tries to blaze a trail that, as far he knows, has never been blazed. The journey begins with this YouTube video. https://youtu.be/CY6pOKQpr4Y

It already had a Chevy 292 in it when I bought it so that's what I'm stuck with. It would have been cool and more useful for people if I had the original P engine, but at least it's a straight six so some things will still be applicable. However, we'll see if I can keep that engine or if I have to go to a V8 to make the new transmission fit.yitzac1990 wrote:what engine are you going with?

Take a look at my current build thread in the Projects section, and let me know if you need any help! I just finished up the drivetrain portion of my LS-SM465-Dana18 swapseth1001 wrote:It already had a Chevy 292 in it when I bought it so that's what I'm stuck with. I have been following it. Looks like it's coming along nicely. I'm sure I'll have questions for you if I end up getting a V8, but we'll see if I need to go that way.

Does the Chevy I6 have the same bellhousing bolt pattern as an SBC?

The saga is continuing. Here's the latest video. https://youtu.be/DkLv6VW-Dmk. My work is a little ahead of the videos but editing is hard...that's what it boils down to. I'll have a couple more in the next month I wager.
