Builds, refurbishments, restorations, upgrades

They do look like the original tail lights fitted after 72 or around.

I used to have a 74 with those. They look aftermarket.

I am thinking they are better than Autozone. But just don't know if they will bolt up.

David, I’ve got a new set of the EBAY taillights...I’ve got your address...They are headed your way... It’s close enough to your birthday.

Mild Bill, I am humbled. I just sent a PM to a forum member before reading yours......"would it not be a wonderful earth if everyone pitched in like this forum?' The originators built it this way....

Thank you so much, I have a few items myself if you need anything. Items that Plateaucal, River, Esteban and others have go generously shared with me.

Kind regards,
David

Ahem.

The horizontal rear lights were not used on any of the US Patrols, those came later. The lights in the eBay listing plateaucal posted will look much better than what you have, those are probably what Flagonni is sending you. But, the absolutely correct lights, as the front turn signals, have glass lenses. Since we've already seen how poorly you take care of your glass lenses, you don't get a set of those uber rare tail lights. :snooty:

RiverPatrol...I'll change :liar: .

Well, you are right. The glass needs to be reserved for Patrols with less severe duty ahead of them.

Patrolling with plastic, :violin:

The diameter of the Ebay lights in Plateaucal's link are correct for your 66.

the only very minor difference between these and the uber-rare glass taillights are the plastic lense, and the 2 little screws that hold the lense in place, and that they were made by Koito (the glass ones were made by Everwing). The Koito lamps with the screws stared showing up on Patrols in 67.

FWIW- My 66 El Bondo should also have the glass taillights and front signals, but mine is also sporting these 2-screw style lamps (Mine are original OEM Koitos that came off the red Patrol when I scrapped it.)

But hey- What are the odds that someone is EVER going to walk up to you at the gas station and ask "Why did you use 67 style tail lights on a 66 Patrol?"

Yeah, ZERO. I would be amazed if a judge at a Nissan/Datsun concourse show would even know to dock you a point for that

David,

Not plastic! They use that stuff for trash bags. Just tell everyone that they are a high performance, lightweight polymer; specially designed to enhance off road performance and visibility....unlike that stuff made out of sand.

Or Special High Impact Tail-lite lens.

Greetings,

I was rolling and patrolling yesterday. It has become clear to me my patrols likely have different gear ratios. Here are my observations for your consideration.

Please note: CCV5 and Phoenix Patrol roll on 33s with 2" lift while Presidio Patrol rolls on the OEM 31s with no lift.

Observations
- 63 Command and Control Vehicle 5 (CCV5) is wound pretty tight at 50 MPH, which is max optimal = about 58 MPH accounting for tire size adjustment. This motor offers good torque in high gears at lower speeds while encountering rolling hills. VZ 42 Carb
- 65 Presidio Patrol (CCV6) rolls nicely at 60 MPH, though we rarely hit max highway speeds, though when at max speed it sounds smooth and not wound up. However, it lacks low end torque in the high gears while accelerating or climbing a slight hill. Rochester Carb
- 66 Phoenix Patrol (CCV7) rolls likely at 60 MPH = almost 70 MPH with tire size adjustment, it sounds like I could drive it all day at this speed. Like Presidio Patrol it lacks the torque found in the 63 at low speed 3rd gear. Not positive on Carb, Rochester I think.

Subjective Conclusion
It seems to me the 63 has different gear ratios than the 65 & 66.

Your thoughts are welcome.

Patrolling and pondering,
L60Boerne
