Phoenix Patrol Build Forthcoming

Builds, refurbishments, restorations, upgrades

Postby L60Boerne » Fri May 15, 2020 6:23 pm

Phoenix Patrol awaits sanding and prep for exterior paint. Nick is the only option around here as we have either show car painters or crash chasers.

Nick's work was so poor we are doing it ourself in my garage. It will be code 657 Nissan Blue in about 3 weeks.

For now, here is globe installed. It arrived with a bulb but I'm not sure it fits. I haven't checked yet.

Patrolling towards paint,

The bulb is LED, it should fit. It's a little brighter to illuminate through the plastic.

Copy-cat :teasing-neener:

I thought you were painting it WHITE...?

plain, boring white... I guess I should applaud you for at least deciding to add some pigment.

Greetings,
Phoenix Patrol has been under the careful care of a master car builder and two family friends out for summer from college.

Phoenix Patroll has know been washed and degreased three times, sanded to metal where needed, sanded and filled as needed to smooth, washed and degreased then a coat of etching primer, now primer. Now they will paint and block then final paint over the next week.

The final push,

Weather permitting....blue paint should be following this block party.

OMG Batman Robin has flown the coop! :o

I sent in the OEM dark Nissan Blue code....this is what I got!

I'm not sure that code card is right? :

Oh well, I can laugh it off. No big deal but we need to check those codes.

Patrolling softly through the petunias,

Looks like the same blue that Daner used on his. It's a nice blue, but not very dark. Which code card are you referring to?

I don't think so. Danr's truck looked like 562 Turquoise to me (same color that SierraPatrol used on his 67 several years back, and the same color as Lou's 69)

This color on David's is 567 blue, and from the pics, it looks pretty accurate to me (567 is the same factory color that was on my 63 soft top parts-donor).

The darkest OEM blue paint code for a US market Patrol that I've ever seen is 564 Mt Fuji Blue, which is the color I tried to emulate on my 66 (but mine is nothing but an eyeball-match to the old brochure photo below, so I will state with certainty that my 66 is not a "correct or accurate" 564 blue - it is just a "close enough for me" approximation. I think the truck in this article is also OEM 564 blue:

https://60patrol.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=33&t=3472

See the pic below for a comparison between factory 567 blue (from my 63), versus my "Not a real Nissan Blue" on the Bondo-bucket.

The only edition of the Patrol parts manuals (I'm aware of) that has paint codes is the 71 edition. Using that, plus years of research from here, and from the Datsun forums, I have deduced that there were 3 blues offered on US market Patrols up through 68:

562 (very light, turquoise color- very common)
564 (darker, grayish, almost a confederate blue- not as common)
567 (kind of sky blue, about 2 shades lighter than 564 - very common)

then, around the same time that Nissan started offering the 2-tone grey and black premium upholstery option, they added a 4th shade of blue:

568 (which is hard to find on published paint chips, but was a dark greenish blue, almost aquamarine, and would have only come on 68's and 69's

all this info is just my personal research, so it's all debatable, and I welcome any counter-points or opposing research :ugeek:

Lighting is everything with color, David may be panicking needlessly. Now that you point out 567 I can see that instead of Daner's color. This thread has a page from a '67 catalog with paint codes: viewtopic.php?f=32&t=1729&p=24270&hilit=Color+code#p24270 . 568 is listed but not shown on the chip charts.

For SURE. If you compare my pic above with the pics you took of Lou's Patrol, the colors seem very similar, until you take into account that Lou's "absolutely confirmed" 562 blue was photo'd in the shade, and my pic above is taken in full, hot, Arizona June sunlight.

Thank you both. When I get back I'll get some additional pictures. Perhaps the paint mixer dude did it right but the swatch of 567 sure appears to me to be a deeper blue.

Thanks again and I'll send more pics on Saturday.

Greetings,

Here are a few from today with the tape off. Lighting does have a lot to do with it.....but it still isn't like the swatch 567...but I'm still 300 miles from seeing it first hand.

I'm will try to get in touch with Raul to see if he can change our soft top color but otherwise we are rolling towards patrolling.

Patrolling again soon,
L60Boerne

Yup, that looks a lot like the blue on my 63 scrapper, as well as what was on my 67 back in the 90's... :)

But I think it's turning out great!
