Tire and Wheel Help: Let me know what you are running

DIYs, FAQs and anything else that doesn't fit in another topic

Postby mdawg4x4 » Sat Jun 29, 2013 8:20 am

I know this has been discussed to great lengths. I searched and didn't quite find what I was looking for, so...

I am looking at a couple different tire sizes, N78-15 (31-9.50?) and P78-16 (33-10.50?).
I would like to run the P78-16 on a 16X7 simulated beadlock wheel. The bolt pattern is 6X5.5 with a hub diameter of? Will this wheel work? http://www.4wheelparts.com/Wheels/152-Rock-Crawler-Series-Gloss-Black-Street-Lock-Wheels.aspx?t_c=11&t_s=209&t_pt=100021&t_pn=PCW152-6783
How much lift would I need to run? I'm not interested in trimming, however, the rear wheel openings on my 67 are already mushroomed out from tire contact.
What back spacing do I need for the wheels? All I can find is a 4.25.

Please help. I found a set of tires that may not be available long.

With the N78-15s you wouldn't need any lift, with the P78-16s you probably would be okay with new stock height springs or go with a 2" lift. You don't want to go with any more than 2" lift otherwise your shackles will invert.

I'm not sure of the hub diameter. I'm pretty sure the offset is 4". If you go with a wheel that fits an FJ40 then all the dimensions should be correct.
Beyond any hope for intervention

I'm running 33x10.5's on a 16x7 rim. 0mm offset 4" backspacing. My 60 has 2" spring and 1" shackle. In my opinion skinny 33's just look so right on a 60 series Patrol but not everyone is into it. I guess it's not a common "look" of fourbies here so that's why I like it too.

Edit... Just looked at the link.. Those wheels are Procomp, same specs just different design as mine.

Here is a link to a few sets of Gateway Buckshot Mudder blemishes. Gateway sold the molds to a Chinese company a few years back, or so I was told. This guy says these are the last ones he has left.
A few 33X10.50-16 (P78) and a few 31X9.50-15 (N78). Note the Gateway name has been ground off. These were the mud tires to have back in the 70/80s where I grew up.

I love the look of Miller's with 33X10.50s, but the wife wants to keep it a little more original looking and not so tall.

I think I'm going with these on stock wheels for the 67. Which brings me to a question. Anybody have a 16" wheel they want to part with so I can have a spare?
