Wheel and Tire Questions

Original and compatible parts

Postby Chucks67 » Wed Aug 21, 2013 3:16 pm

Im still trying to find some new wheels for my 67. The front hubs are just over 4 inches across and the stock chevy wheels are under 4 inches that I can find locally. Any solutions for this or what wheels will fit over the front hubs.

Usually the Chevy 6 lug with enlarged centers work. Also Toyota 6 lug works.
Beyond any hope for intervention

As RP said, Toyota wheels work.

I have the Chevy Rally wheel on mine 6 lug 5.5 bolt pattern - 4"backspace. Check out Summit Racing, they have a huge selection you can at least get an idea of what is available. I have a set of chrome wheels if you are interested. :D

I swap my toyota pick up wheels no problem. There was a post recently about wheels made with custom dimensions.....they looked good. Search it......

Regarding wheels that are CLOSE to the stock look, but not quite an exact match- check out Stockton Wheel's 20 series. They can be ordered in any 15 or 16 inch size, with any backspacing, and in any wheel lug configuration:

http://stocktonwheel.com/heavy_duty.html

So having them do a set to the Patrol's factory wheel spec should be possible since the wheel lug pattern is identical to the GM six lug pattern.

6 lug trailer wheels also work, if you like wagon wheels or solid wheels. I've been keeping an eye out for 70-80's stock steel wheels for toyota pickup. They fit the stock looks if that's what you're goin for.. I'm probably going to run FJ60 wheels because I have them..

FYI, back spacing is what is going to matter the most. All Patrols are 6 on 5.5 which is a very common size. I have not encountered a center bore problem in a long time. If I recall correctly, been a while since I measured, Patrols have a 4.25" b/s. FJ60 Land Cruiser wheels do mount up but only have 3.25" of b/s so with anything other than super skinny tires you will have issues in the rear wheel wells. Unless you rear wheel wells are cut.

That is the main issue with Patrols, rear fender wheel well. I was just comparing a factory size last night, 7.50x16 to 33x10.5's. With an early 16" wheel and a 7.50 tire there is plenty of room. Like enough room to go to a much wider tire. Even could do a bit more b/s. I am 90% sure a 33x10.5 tire will fit on a stock Patrol with the right wheel and back spacing. I am thinking a 4.5" b/s will do the trick. I found one set of wheels at 4Wheelparts that fit this criteria that I like. I would have to dig for awhile though to find them and provide a link, I didn't save the page to my bookmarks. On my 68 though I am aiming to run the 33x10.5 on an aftermarket wheel.

Cheers
