I just bought some 7.00-15 Power King tires to use on my 1967 with split rims but I am starting to second guess my decision. I want to keep the look of my correct color matched split rims and was hoping to use a period correct looking tire too. But the top of the tread measures at 5 inches wide and I think I want something a little wider on the ground. Maybe some 30x9.50's

I think maybe you're just too used to seeing wider tires on off road vehicles. The stock tires were very narrow. Remember though, they weren't radials either. I've run 15 x 7.5 on one on the split rims and they perform just fine on and off road. Technically, with the split rims I think the narrower the better, less pressure on the lock ring.

Pressure on the locking ring is a concern that I was thinking about. I like the look of the tires that are currently on it, the top of the tread is about an inch and a half wider than the tires I got. I think the 30x9.50 might be closer to the width of my current tire. I am going to locate a good used one and do some test fitting.

Looks like the current tires are just under 7 inches on treadwidth and under 9 for a cross section. A set of 30x9.50's might work out okay.

Please note if you are worried about slipping on wet roads you MUST NOT purchase those Coker Military style tires. They are terrible on wet roads. We ran those back in the early 70s on our FJ. Lucky I am alive today to type this.

Yeah I was talking with a guy yesterday that had a set and he almost crashed in a corner. Return label has been printed and tires will be shipped tomorrow.

I run 7.00 x 16 on one of my Patrols. They are on original, but not split rims.

I run these because they are correct to the era.

They are about 5.5" wide.

They are the Military type profile. However I don't drive the Patrol in the wet - it is a soft top without the soft type.

I find that after a few days of being parked they develop 'flat spots' and the Patrol shakes and rattles for about 10kms before they warm up and return to round.

I was hoping to keep that old original look too but not willing t ok make the trade off. I have decided to go with 29x8.50 superswampers.
