Radiator support bushings ?

Original and compatible parts

Postby EricB » Thu Aug 21, 2014 12:43 pm

Hi

Have you fellow owners found something that fits for the 8 radiator support bushings?

I thought I'd take a look at these two and see how close / how far they are...

I'll get them later today...

I've received them from McMaster today.
I'll pull the stock bushings off the top of my rad tomorrow and check.

At first glance OD and thickness look pretty close to spot on ... Hold on before you all run out and order just yet.

Success!
Well at least I think so...

Side by side pics show the OE bushing has a slightly tapered head - the McMaster bushing does not - but it will work out just fine.
McMaster bushing has slightly smaller OD so the flat side sits nicely in the OE washer and the radiused side fits nicely in the radiator bracket.
My OE bushings are pretty far gone so I'd only be guessing at what their original height was, but comparing my used ones to the new rubber ones and it's about even on height.

You actually have two options from McMaster that will be good substitutes for the radiator bushing replacement:

Either you get one pack of 10qty RUBBER bushings for $8 and you will have to bore out the ID for the OE bushing bolt.

Or you get 8 of the following POLYURETHANE bushing for $8ea and it should be a bolt on affair - no ID re-drilling required.

I used the rubber ones listed above when I re-mounted the rad after the front end swap... A - Ok !

They fit great.
I oriented the radiused edge towards the rad on either side.
I used a big fender washer (painted black) on the engine bay side to finish it off along with new hardware.

Works like a charm - definitely recommended.

Thats Eric you have found a solution that needs to be reported to RiverPatrol so she can upload it to the Compatable Parts List.

Justin sent me a good one from his 69. I am thankful to have his because the ingenuity that flows from folks like you on this forum bypasses my garage. I don't have the time to work with my projects and anything that requires imagination slows us down for weeks. I do appreciate your help and resoursefulness.

Justin's help completes the radiator rebuild on CCV5 but I will now take a closer look at the bushings on Presidio Patrol's radiator. If they need replacement I will personally follow your instructions. I really appreciate help likes you and it challenges me to follow
your directions to see if I can do it without an epic fail.

Merry Christmas,
David

Hi David

I checked and the rad requires 8 bushings
McMaster sells the ones I found in packs of 10
So I have two left over ... Not sure that helps you if you are looking to replace all of them on your second Patrol ...
But if you do want just the two I have left, then let me know ...
