My rig needs a correct oil cap...

Original and compatible parts

Postby offroadkid » Mon May 04, 2015 4:16 pm

As mentioned in my PCV post, I have the incorrect oil cap on my Patrol. Looking through my parts manual I have 3 choices to pick from.

1. 15255-44200 CAP-OIL FILLER (ANTI-AIR POLLUTION) MODEL "ALL" <----This one I can't find online anywhere, it doesn't even come up on Nissan Parts Deal (formerly Zone).

2. 15255-44201 CAP-OIL FILLER (FOR USA) MODEL "ORIGINAL PART LEFT HAND DRIVE" <----This one I can't find either...

3. 15255-12251 (supersedes to 15255-03W50) OIL-CAP FILLER (OPEN TYPE) MODEL "ALL EXCEPT US NA" <----This one is available through Nissan Parts Deal

Is anyone else running the 15255-03w50? I can get it for $9.69 plus tax and shipping. Here's a pic

Several Patrols run the cap pictured. You'll be fine running with that cap. You could block off the nipple for the hose on the valve cover, since you'll be venting from the cap instead.
Beyond any hope for intervention

That cap is the one I'm running. Mine is a 65 non-USA model, that has a chimney vent in the rear of the engine, so crankcase gases blow out to the atmosphere. The cap is vented as well.

Well, it finally happened to me today from Nissan Parts Deal.

"All parts in your order are discontinued. Your order is cancelled."

15255-03W50 CAP-OIL FILLER 1 Discontinued

This sucks because the guy looked it up yesterday and assured me it was available. :(

I think the P40 one is still available and it is a perfect match, at least as far as fitment. I will look it up on Amayama later and post a link if it comes up as available.

Also you can search Ebay for Datsun oil filler cap, I believe others work from other Datsuns. I know for a fact the 311 roadster cap gasket is exactly the same as on the P engine.

Cheers

Offroadkid, does your Patrol has the chimney vent in the right rear side of the engine block or the vent on top of the valve cover?

I have the vent with the hose going to the oil bath air cleaner.
