Replacement Gas Tank

Original and compatible parts

Postby Edgar » Mon Jun 01, 2020 10:19 pm

War consists of many battles, some won and some lost. My goal is to win more than i lose. Today was not one of those. After dropping the gas tank and beginning to clean it out after 41 years of no use I have discovered two holes in the rusty bottom of the tank. My plan was to use POR15 to line the inside but with the holes (one is the size of a dime) I am thinking it might be time to put this tank to rest and get a replacement. Does anyone have any recommendations on replacement tanks? I would like to be able to still hook into the gas gauge on the dash. Suggestions please!!

I have a couple tanks out of trucks I've scrapped if you're interested in a solid used one. PM me your email address and I'll send over some pictures.

If you need a fuel sending unit/level sensor my experience is that the new ones sold on ebay from Colombia work but they are later models so the F & E are reversed. It is best to find vintage parts that work.

I was wondering about that Columbian unit. Good advice. Thanks.

Noob question; can't the wires be reversed to correct this?

Probably not -- I means that the resistance from the sender is reversed. I can't remember which way it goes, but the sender has lots of resistance when all the way to one extreme and zero resistance a the other. The Columbia must be set up the opposite way.

Hi, does anyone have a source for a correct sending unit?
Thanks,
