factory engine paint schemes?

Sorry I found a dupont dealer and they say the Centari paint is no longer available. Ignore this formula.

Audrey, in June last year I sent a fax with that formula to a Dupont dealer here in Virginia. They said that they could do it, but maybe after 14 months things have changed.

Anyway, I saved also a paint recipe from the following site. I copied also the text:

And what about these two below? The blue 64 shows as a 19,000 mile original, and it has a grey engine - is this a non-original color? or is the Seafoam green color greyish enough that it might look grey in some pics?

Hmmmm this has me thinking- My green patrol is a 66, but the replacement engine in it is much earlier (probably a 63 engine) I should go scrape some paint off the engine and see if I can see green underneath it...

Ok, I think I found some of the green color on the water pump on the El Paso Patrol -- it's a very light, greyish green color- makes me think that the green engine in the green 64 I posted above is too green, and that the "grey" I'm seeing in the pics of the restored Blue and Scott's red Patrols is actually the correct seafoam green color...?

I'm thinking that Scott's engine really is gray. I think the other two are the sea foam green but because the body is such a bright blue the seafoam is looking gray. The First one, the green one looks correct.

You can usually find some of the original paint on the trans or transfer.

And in case anyone is asking why the crazy guy from Arizona is so focused on engine paint when none of his engines are even the original ones for his Patrols- it's a personal tradition of mine. On all my projects, I have always researched the serial numbers of the engine I used, and have always tried to get the engine back to the same color that it originally rolled out of the factory with, regardless of what year or model vehicle I ended up using the engine in.

I've never been so anal about the car itself however... I've always painted my cars whatever color I wanted them to be. I've always started with the original pallet for the year and model and tried to pick a "correct" color chip, but I'll go off the reservation and do a custom blended color if it suits me...

but the engine? No- it has to be the original factory color that was used for that exact engine block. I'm a total

Ok, with the engine out I have confirmed a couple suspicions about this early (62-63) engine in the El Paso machine :

Firstly- I found the original seafoam green on the back of the oil filter housing and lower block



and, as RP said she had seen on some other early engines- this one had a red valve cover:



So while the engine's out, I will strip this awful light blue paint off everything, and will return it to it's original paint scheme.

I have seen photos with the following Model P engine color combinations:

Seafoam green engine with seafoam valve cover
Seafoam green engine with orange valve cover
Seafoam Green engine with Black valve cover
Black engine with black valve cover
Black engine with orange valve cover
Bright blue engine and Blue valve cover (most 66 and newer patrols)
Bright blue engine with black valve cover
Bright blue engine with orange valve cover

Mike- I can't remember ever seeing another Patrol besides yours with the dark green valve cover; however, I do recall seeing that dark green color on a few transmissions and transfer cases, so I would say that' it's probably a correct color.

And, just realizing that I originally started this thread, and typing out this latest reply, has made me realize that I am way too much of a freak about originality and accuracy...

I know, this is a really old thread and my apologies for dredging it up. Got a question concerning the early (pre-'66) engine color which this thread calls "Seafoam Green". Was this Seafoam Green use on early '60s Datsun/Nissan vehicles as a body color?

I've searched and can't seem to find that as a early Datsun/Nissan body color, but if it was and I knew the paint code number and year/model application, I can get it mixed up in spray cans.

Anyone know?

As far as I know no one was ever able to determine paints codes for engine colors. Not helpful, I know.
