piston pin fit

Won't run? Engine, cooling system, fuel pump, carb, clutch, tranny, brakes, etc. The old messages from the NPCA 'Engine & Mechanical' category are here.

I have disassembled an engine that was neglected and frozen.... having trouble removing wrist pin from piston and con rod. Heating con rod helps. The manual (that I have)seems to indicate that these pins are a thumb pressure fit. It seems to me the pin should be tight (press fit) in piston and thumb (loose fit) in con rod. Any thoughts info greatly appreciated!

The sets of piston and rods that I have worked with had to be pressed out by my machine shop. They have the technology machines and knowledge. Good luck.

The 1978 Service Manual confirms 50car comments. This is from the manual:

The piston pins are special hollow steel types which are connected to the piston by full floating fit and to the connecting rods by press fit.
