Valve Adjustment

Won't run? Engine, cooling system, fuel pump, carb, clutch, tranny, brakes, etc. The old messages from the NPCA 'Engine & Mechanical' category are here.

I am trying to decide if my valves need adjustment. When warm there is a very slight valve tapping sound. Should it be completely silent when properly adjusted?

There shouldn't be any tapping noise that you can hear inside the cabin. Maybe you'll be able to hear something while next to the open engine bay. If you have the hand crank, valve adjustment can be done in no time.

You bring to operating temperature, and then with the help of the hand crank position either piston 1 or piston 6 on top dead center.

Valve Clearance 0.015" - 0.016" (0.38mm - 0.40mm)

1. Bring Cyl #1 to TDC to adjust the following valves:
1 - 2 - 3 - 6 - 8 - 9

2. Rotate 1 full revolution to bring Cyl #6 to TDC and adjust the remaining valves:
4 - 5 - 7 - 10 - 11 - 12

Plateaucal...I can say all of mine tapped until properly adjusted...there was no pattern to which way to tune.....except my cash flow.....

Though my costs were amazing the only thing moreso is how good they sounded once properly set by Benjamin Franklin.

Well, I am kind of sensitive to these things. I just want to make sure all is in the right order for the next owner. Which will probably be you. I have a magical way of correcting your cash flow problem. We'll talk.

So...... I seeeeeee your game now, Plateaucal. I have to buy the whole Patrol just to get the swing out jerry can rack? That would be far from the worst deal I have ever made.

Quid Pro Quo. You need a Sunday go to meeting Patrol. That and there is this hunting gig, which is a pretty good gig. I fully intend to take advantage of this. BTW, I think I have envisioned a good set up for your spare gas can carrier. Mine aint it.
