Here are some instructions that I put together. It is not the best but life has taken up more time than I had thought for me to get this made. I will update it when I get a chance. If anyone needs any help just reach out to me.

Greetings to all Patrolees,

It goes without saying brakes are important and simply can't be unreliable in town or facing a steep hill climb. If you have an old brake system Justin's upgrade will deliver reliable front disk brakes and I am glad I made the switch.

Today I can report the full front disk brake conversion is complete for Command and Control Vehicle 5 (CCV5). It works perfectly. Thank you Justin! CCV5 is my 63, which is my favorite for Colorado. The conversion requires the following scope.

A). Disk Brake Set Up from Justin
B). New Front Brake Lines
C). New Wilwood Master Brake Cylinder with Justin's baseplate adapter
D). New Wheel Rims

Justin was tireless in his efforts to research the parts required and we will patrol together when his Patrol begins to roll. He drove down and worked through the first attempt at installation. We learned a lot, mainly that you must have the right master brake cylinder and you will need new wheel rims as the OEMs rims do not have the space required for the disk brake calipers.

Now that Justin has the disk set up completely lined out the most tedious aspect remaining is the brake master cylinder (MBC) and it is not quite as straight forward as you might think. Justin brought two MBCs to Eddie's shop but I ended up buying a 3rd. Maybe I have one you need? I'll bring it back in April. The MBC design points are the plunger rod length and fitment to the space and bolt hole pattern existing.

Though Justin was very eager to drive all the way to CO to complete the conversion I just couldn't work it out. Rene finished the project and frankly I wanted a master mechanic to ensure my brakes are perfect. Justin is a great helicopter pilot but I needed a brake specialists to tune my brakes as the trails around Lake City demand that respect.

Last word on this conversion. Though expensive, it is worth every penny if you have a "iffy" original set up. If you go down this path you will end up with a reliable brake system and that is worth more than the price of admission, flat land or not.

Rolling and Patrolling,
L60Boerne

Hi David

Could you put up the part details of all the brake master cylinders you used and especially the one that worked. What's is the baseplate adaptor? Pictures will help :)

I have this on my 'to do' list. It will require a bit of work on my part for the BMC as I have duel brake circuits and a power booster. But anything you can provide will help.
Not sure if I will get there.
Not sure if I will get back.
But I usually do!!!

Peter,
I wish I had the details you requested as I drank out of my Patrol mug just this morning. Justin will have those details. Concerning the Master Brake Cylinder, (MBC) as noted the fitment requires full understanding of the base plate and plunger length....and this changes through from 1960 to 1969.

Let's wait until Justin has a minute and I am sure he can fill us all in.

I do know Rene drove my 63 from his garage up to my barn which is almost 1,000 vertical feet in 10"+ inches of snow....and he must be 100% sure it works to do that. On the downside he had to drive it down that grade without brakes (maybe a smidge) to finish the conversion in March which is our heavy snow month.

L60Boerne, thanks for the review and for your patience with the issues we encountered during your conversion. I fully understand your want for a certified mechanic to finish up the conversion given you extreme use of your Patrol. I'm glad that it is finally all worked out and that Rene has you back on the road.

Peter60, I have a complete parts list on the very first page of this thread that I have kept updated when I find something new or better for this conversion. Check it out and it should answer your questions. If not shoot me a message and I can answer anything you need.

I am currently working to get more adapters made at a better cost but it is proving difficult. I will update the main page once I get some info on the new adapters and the pricing.

Greetings,
I'm finally back in CO haunting the hills in my 63 that Justin's disk brake upgrade is on. WOW! Now that everything is operating perfectly it stops like a leopard on a lamb!

I love it! I have never been so confident with this rig in the Rockies.

Thanks Justin,
