Converting to dual reservoir brake master cylinder

Upgrades, downgrades, modernizations, alterations or just being creative.

I like the schematic depiction (page 8?) of the "slave" master cylinder being in series. It made what Esteban tried to tell me about why the pedal pressure and travel wouldn't change finally soak in. I submit.

This is a dual reservoir, dual circuit, one inch bore MC originally for a 1967 Chevrolet C10 pickup 4x2, with 4 wheel drums and built in 50/50 bias - $26 at the neighborhood O'Reiley Auto Parts Store:

Based on my research, this one should offer nearly identical braking power and pedal feel to the stock Patrol MC, but with the benefit of isolated front/rear circuits...

Nothing left to do but fab up an adaptor for the bolt pattern, hook it up, and see if I'm right... :?

Hey Rob -- Any progress on the dual master cylinder replacement?

No, I've been slackin... :? Work has been kicking my butt lately... Haven't had much garage time.

Hmmmm maybe this Saturday- the schedule looks clear so far, and I'm sure the kids will be sleeping in late due to their "day after Halloween" sugar-induced insulin comas... :D

I was thinking about doing this as well since my brake system needs an overhauling but now my head is spinning from reading all of this.

I'm waiting for Rob to complete the conversion, become the crash dummy and then, if successful, provide the howto doc on dual MCs!

you're going to be waiting awhile... :? I am all out of operational Patrols at the moment. 8-)

I still plan to use this GM MC on the "next iteration" of the 66 El Paso Patrol, but it's going to be awhile...

For anyone looking for a 100% bolt in dual reservoir MC for their patrol - just order one of these:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Brake-Master-Cy ... 75&vxp=mtr

This is the exact MC I am going to build my 65 hard top with, and when I get to that point in my project, I will do a "how to" on converting your Patrol from single circuit to dual circuit brakes...

Hi all

So I'm looking at the 1" Wilwood MC that was sold by silvermine/californiadatsun/datsunlandsocal & which is pre-modified for early Z cars and a couple things came up that I wanted to mention to you all ...

The center to center dim for the MC mounting studs on the Patrol firewall is approx 65mm

The 1" Wilwood MC even after the holes have been opened up for an early Z car is more like 55-57mm center to center.
By the time you open it up to get to 65 there won't be much of stock casting left ... the washers between your mounting stud nuts & the wilwood MC look like they will be half on / half off ... You all ok with this ?

Also, I noticed that the rod that pins into the brake pedal and operates the MC piston is some 15mm too long and would need to be shortened...
Again, you ok with this ?

Has anyone actually used the Wilwood 1" MC on their Patrol ?

Looking at some at the following thread,

viewtopic.php?f=21&t=2782&p=26526&hilit=wilwood#p26526

Justin (jwgreen) has modified the mounting holes, although I couldn't see any pictures, just the master cylinder installed. Beautiful work. I hope Justin can chime in with your concerns.

Besides some aesthetics, if at all, you'll be ok. After you do it, please post some pictures.

My 67 already had a modified Wilwood style (don't remember the name on the side). It had both holes over sized with the lower one slotted and over sized washers holding it in place.
I replaced it with a new Wilwood and installed it back in the same manner. Had I put a little more thought into it, I probably would have ordered a master cylinder from 4WD Australia off e-Bay.
