Anti-Theft Mods?

Upgrades, downgrades, modernizations, alterations or just being creative.

If you have or have thought of any modifications to make sure your patrol stays yours and would be willing to share it - I'd appeciate it.

I'm thinking an electric brake kit or a hidden relay/switch for those with electronic fuel pumps but am curious as to how else it has been handled.

Bonus points for solutions that do not involve electricity!

EXACTLY what I was thinking!

I think a battery disconnect switch would befuddle most thieves and would make the classic under-hood simple hotwiring useless (unless they find the switch). Or, park it in 4 low. They may steal it, but you'll be able to chase them down on foot ;-)

Side note, all my kids were required to learn to drive in a stick AND take the test in a stick. The youngest takes his license test in December in a stick shift 1984 Volvo 240 WAGON! I guess this leaves the car-thief career path open to them ;-)

For close to 50 years mine has had a chain and a padlock to the steering wheel. One end of the chain has a bolt that goes through the battery box, under the seat. The nuts are welded.

I also have a battery disconnect mounted on the passenger side footwell to the left. Very handy for maintenance tasks and a deterrent as well

If anyone could figure out how to start mine I'm certain they would bring it back and leave a six pack in the seat.

I offered member Zed to post a picture of my anti-theft... Very high tech

Chain and padlock.jpg

The chain is actually welded to one of the seat rails. A padlock ties the chain to the one of the steering wheel arms. My previous description was actually in another Patrol I used to own.
