Gasket Scans

Original and compatible parts

Postby faux40 » Mon Jul 21, 2014 12:21 am

I've been uploading all my gasket scans -- Probably should have created a single thread for them awhile ago. Please add any that you have. I've found that if I set the gasket on my flatbed scanner with a sewing tape in two directions, it works out pretty well.

I hope they're useful!

Is everyone planning on taking these pics down and hand cutting out their own gaskets ?

Or is there any interest in tracing these on the computer and then either making the files available to everyone ?
Or potentially getting a place to laser cut them out ?

Tracing is easy because the scans are good and have scales on them.
    Let me know?

Having computer traced files would be real nice. Are you offering to undertake this project? ;)

I wonder if graph paper would aid in aligning and measuring all in one scan without the tape....?

Excellent idea -- I'll try it on the next one.

    Thanks!

    Hi Leslie
    Hi guys

Yes, I'm offering to trace all the gaskets that get scanned in and then make them available as .AI or .PDF
Easy enough - I'll start on the ones that are already in this thread above

Typical laser cutter size is 18" x 24" if I remember right, if we can agree on a roll of gasket material we can probably get a whole bunch cut out at once.

Esteban shared this scan of the fuel level sender gasket. He sent over an original, factory gasket. It's made from about 1/8" thick cork. Note that the screw holes are not symmetrical around the ring and will only fit on the tank one way.

    Hi everyone

I haven't forgotten about this - I am working through them now.
I was delayed a bit by a work trip last week.

I've got some questions for your faux40:

    Transmission Side Cover Gasket
On the lower part of the outside right edge of the scan (just before the bottom rounded corner), there is a wobble in the gasket - I'm guessing it is supposed to be straight?

Transfer Case Small Top Cover Gasket
It seems like the holes aren't symmetric from the left side to the right side.
It seems like the left side holes are set in further from the outer edge than they are on the right side.
To me this is most visible with the bottom left hole which appears to be set in much more than its right side counterpart.
Is the gasket symmetric or not?

    Timing Gear Case Gasket
On the left hand side of the scan, are the two vertical edges meant to line up? Or is there an offset in the part?

Transmission Input Shaft Seal Cover Gasket
It would seem like the two main round openings in the center of the gasket should be perfectly circular, but they are not.
Maybe this is just a function of the scan?

Finally could you please take a caliper to the different sized bolt holes and send me the dims to make sure I have those right ?
    Thank you !!
