Fixed my saggy springs

Bottoms out? Shimmies? Shackles, springs, shocks, steering linkage etc. The old messages from the NPCA 'Suspension' category are here.

My 67 Patrol sat a little low in the front after carrying a large winch mount bumper and plow for most of its life. It was four inches lower in the front then the other two I have here. So to remedy the problem I stole them off the 65 donor Patrol. She sits perdy now. I also noticed that the shocks that are on the front limit the downward travel by 1 1/2 inches compared to the donor. I'll changes them later.

Wow- What a difference! Looks great.

Interesting  Neither of those two look like original Patrol front springs to me- Every original front Patrol spring I've ever seen only had 3 main leaves, and one small load leaf. The top one in your pic doesn't even have the military wrap.

I wonder if both Patrols just happened to have set of custom front springs...?

Regardless- the results are a BIG improvement.

I was kinda thinking that myself. The originals don't look right. Like you said they don't have the wrap and the others that I put on, after driving it home are super stiff. It rides like a cabover dump truck. I know I'm not going to get a caddy like ride but these are WAY stiffer then I would think they should be. But it is back to a good ride height. I didn't keep it for it's creature comforts...

It's amazing what a difference a set of springs makes. Looks better.

Is that a Toyota hubcap on the rear?

I don't know what the caps are. They were in the back of one of them when I cleaned them out and they popped right on, so.... run it! This thing rides awful now! So bad that my wife noticed and I didn't tell her I changed them...

Yeah, with that many leaves it's no surprise. The stock suspension on a Patrol is usually a pretty smooth ride.

well that might change a few things... I now have the 65 parts truck and was planning to use the front springs on my 67 patina build, but I might have to change my mind on that now that i have found this post. also on a side note the rear axle in that 67 post above is a toyota rear axle I think.6308
My front springs are not the same, I think the passenger side has been replaced sometime in the past. The on on the right side of the picture I think is the correct part for the patrols. I might have to use the springs of the 1963 parts truck I have instead of the ones I took off the 1965. I guess i could get a new set made by Alcan but not sure i can justify that expense.5819
