P40 engine parts that work and those that don't

Won't run? Engine, cooling system, fuel pump, carb, clutch, tranny, brakes, etc. The old messages from the NPCA 'Engine & Mechanical' category are here.

I contacted a locate lift truck parts company and they said they only have kits for p40 or ppu240 and Ppu 241. Which of the Ppu engines should I order my oil pan and other gaskets from.

At first it didn't ring a bell, but doing an outside search pointed me right back here into 60Patrol. :D :D

One of our earlier members, AzSteve (where are you?) posted the Parts Manual for the Komatzu PPU240.241-PE1. This manual I've never downloaded, so I took the chance today. After reviewing it, It's clear for me that both are the same, 240 or 241, at least on the core engine parts, and they're the same as the P engine. The only mention that I could find for different parts between the two Komatzu engines is for the governor. All the engine parts, are exactly the same as in the P engine.

Go for it.

Please take a look at his post:

It will be good to have the contact name of your source for parts.

I agree with Esteban (as usual :D )

I did a ton of research a year ago with Suhail (Kardok) and we pretty much established that the PPU's long block engine components are 100% compatible with the P engine.

Only the P40 has the several notable differences outlined in this thread.

The oil pan gasket I ordered finally came in and I am hoping to get it installed this weekend if I get a chance.
I got the gasket from Liftway limited in brantford Ontario Canada. Their telephone number is 519 759 5590. They have a catalogue for the komatsu Ppu motors

MotorPower Inc is no longer operating and has been bought by Grindstaff Engines. The MotorPower website is still up but they do not have control of it, the owner died last year and they bought the business but cannot gain control of the website. Just spoke with Rick Grindstaff and he has some of the info on the PPU engine parts but they do not show on his site. I have also been looking at Tiffen Parts. Looks like both are about the same price. Tiffen gives the actual Nissan Part numbers and the Motor Power site shows a made up internal part number.

Big loss of knowledge... MotorPower was one of a couple of resources for the Datsun J-13, J-15, and J-16 engines!

Oh crud! Not good. Hopefully the new owners are able to re-establish those motor kits.

Just ordered my engine parts from liftpartswarehouse.com after searching through 4 different sites. Their prices were the best that I was able to find and since all the parts are pretty much equal I pulled the trigger. I had also looked at TiffIn but it was going to cost $759 for the same items from LiftParts for $567. I also looked at Forklift Engine Parts and HGM Forklift Parts but neither of them offered the PPU main bearing set so I did not even consider them although looking back at my spreadsheet I see they were a little higher on the parts they could offer. I went ahead and ordered a few extra parts to get myself into the free shipping area. I am not sure the freeze plug set will work or not as I think it is actually for the P40 engine and I could not find a FPK-241 part number on their site. if they do not work I will order the FPK241 set from TiffIn or see what the machine shop has. it sounded like the guy that bought the inventory and business name for MotorPower is geared more for engine building and not parts stocking, doubtful if he will see many PPU engines and probably has to order all the parts from a warehouse like Tiffen does.

here are all the part numbers for different size pistons and bearings from the TiffIn website.

Well that bites. The nice thing about MotorPower is that they guys were familiar with the differences between the P and PPU engine, they were always willing to help find the best solution. :|
Beyond any hope for intervention
