L60Boerne's Santa's Sleigh

Builds, refurbishments, restorations, upgrades

Good news, the field test went very well. It still has an electrical issue draining the battery but it runs very strong!

Here is Plateaucal at The Lair...striking a pose.

Patrolling at last in the sleigh!

The Patrol runs out really well! I don't know if its the altitude or the new carb. but it runs out better than mine which has a rebuilt engine. It also seems to be geared higher(lower ratio) than mine. Is this possible? Our tires are the same.

I noted that when starting the starter would spin the engine then stall momentarily then spin and so on. Finally it stopped working. The battery volts static was 12-12.5. With the lights on we engaged the starter and the lights went out completely suggesting a big voltage drop and current draw. The battery is new and holding volts. Could the starter need a rebuild or do a load test on the battery first? All the connections were sound and clean.

I'll post up a couple of photos

Sorry about the rotate thing. The first photo is of my gracious host. And the second photo is from a deer blind on one my many solo forays in pursuit of the wild beasts.

Totally cool patrol. Love it.

Any chance the admins could move this thread to projects from classifieds so folks can find it :-)

It doesn't sound like a starter issues, you've got another electrical problem of some sort. It almost sounds like a short.

My thoughts are that the rotor is grounding on the stator due to bad bushings. The wiring looks all new.

Thank you all for always sorting out my problems. I hope in the coming years I can pay back more of you from what little I know about things other than Patrols.

So....the Rio Grande headwaters are across the divide from Lake City, Co. Run it through CO, then the length of NM, then through El Paso, then along the MX/US border for 250 miles and you get. My next stop after leaving Plateaucal. We planned more field testing but licensing and electrical issues got in the way.....next time.
