Any chance you will be around Lake City 1st week of August this year. If I can get the right family lined up that knows the area well, I want to run the Alpine Loop while we are there. Tried to plan it last year, but changed plans last minute to run Imogene with relative of a relative. He works part time as a 4X4 guide, and wanted to check out the slide conditions.
Would be great to meet up for a few minutes on our way through town.

MDawg4x4...challenge accepted. I will start planning for sometime during Aug 2-9. Now, if we wanted to really do this right we would pour a thin line of Makers Mark from Montrose to Lake City. Plataeucal can sense the slightest splillage in a dead sleep. Once awakened to the crisis..... he will pick up the trail and follow it to my cabin in LC. I know him, he will not leave the trail until he finds its source!

Anyone else? A Patrol is forming.

Lets keep in touch.

That's funny. Our trail guide is actually from Montrose. We are going to try to make a trip up there that week as well.
FYI, I won't be Patrollin'. Too fur to drive it. Will be in Jeep.
I've seen pictures of people running Black Bear Pass in the old Willys Jeeps and can not imagine the pucker factor involved with manual steering and brakes in addition to having the 3rd pedal! But they didn't know any different back in the old days! These people on the other hand,,,https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0-Mmg3yzTsE

And just for interesting reading about Black Bear Pass for those not familiar with it. https://junglefenderflares.com/blog/black-bear-pass-once-a-year-backwards/

Very interesting reading indeed!

Just begun watching the video as well. Looks like a great adventure.

Never done Black Bear. Done the Alpine Loop many times in a variety of vehicles and even Poughkeepsi Gulch but on a Yamaha WR450. The Alpine is pretty and easy....in an automatic with disc brakes. Can I bring my RZR?

Just read of an avalanche just south of Lake City. 1 home destroyed with 3 injuries, 1 adult serious transported to Grand Junction.

Thank you, my daughter, new husband and another couple are there now. The other end of town but no less dangerous. You should see the pictures, the snow is up to the eves. It is a blessing....the area really needs the moisture.

Snowpack is 150% of normal and early on. Still more coming. Socked in down here in Montrose. Rain.

Greetings Patrollees Worldwide,

Nature and machine prevented our Alpine Loop ascent to the top of the Rockies. It was a blessing as I was way overbooked. Both Patrols were unfit or unsafe.

Presidio Patrol gets out of ready with a wrench Rene's Garage today. Command and Control Vehicle 7 goes in when we leave.

In the meantime, all the great parts amassed have been organized and stored in their Lake City crib.

Someday we will get back on the trail, maybe this weekend with Plateaucal.

Patrolling when possible,
L60Boerne
