Re: Starters for sale

Great story Eric! With your connections in Colombia you'll be able to find many spare parts like water pump, fuel pump, crankshaft bearings, and others. Still difficult but with a bit of patience you'll get the parts. Yes, Esteban! Last year my wife gifted me a trip to Bogota so her brother could t...

Re: Starters for sale

Very cool, thanks for this great info! Ok, this does appear to be a very, very early Patrol. We'll call it a '61 since that's what it was sold to you as. It does have an earlier VIN than any recorded in the US Patrol Registry . The engine number coincides with being a very early engine as well. It ...

Re: Starters for sale

Having the VIN number will help. Getting the VIN from the frame is the most helpful but you said the Patrol is in storage, so if you have the Vin on any documentation that will do for now. Also pictures of the engine compartment and the Patrol would help. Hi RiverPatrol-- The VIN is L60200016. Here...

Re: Starters for sale

Glad to hear you do have the P engine. When you have a chance, post the numbers of chassis and engine so RiverPatrol can sort it out in terms of proper year. Your old starter is the aftermarket one. Never seen one like it in the Patrol. Hello Esteban and RiverPatrol-- Yes, I'd like some help learni...

Re: Starters for sale

Thanks for giving this a look, Esteban. I definitely have a P engine. I'm unsure of the model year, though -- it was sold to me as a 1961 Patrol L60, but it came equipped with a hydraulic clutch, which I have heard wasn't standard till several years after that. Just to clarify, are you saying that m...

Re: Starters for sale

Hi Esteban-- Thanks for the response -- it's been busy here with home remodeling projects underway, so it took me a while to get back to this. I disassembled my starter to clean it out and lube it, so I've attached a photo showing its mounting plate and cog gear next to the new starter. I didn't kno...

Re: Starters for sale

I must admit, I am a little confused. Will that starter work on the earlier engine? The starter will work on all years of the P engine fitted Patrols. (1962 - 1979) Please note that the P40 engine that came around 1979-80 uses a different one. Hi Esteban (and anyone else out there)-- My Patrol L60 ...

Driving on the beach

Here in the Boston area we can drive on the beach with vehicles suitably equipped at the Cape Cod National Seashore. I’ve heard that some modification to the steering/suspension is needed for driving in sand. I’m upgrading my 7.5” tires to 265/75R16. Any advice on modifications I should do ?

Re: Soft Top Frame and Rear Doors Reproduction

Wow. That looks fantastic. Is it a medium wheel base? My Patrol originates from Colombia and has the hardtop that was unique to Colombia. I actually like the Columbian hardtop, mainly because I can't imagine having a soft top in the Northeast during winters. It would be nice if it were removable. :...
