Excellent. I'd say bent original too. Good forensic photos. Two of the photos are almost perfectly to scale on my screen. Dumb luck or are you just that good?

Self deprecation is one of your endearing qualities. But I am catching on. Thanks for the photo. It will be a little project one of these days.

Is that the June issue of American Rifleman? Haven't got mine yet.

I saved the photos posted by David, and started doing some proportional measurements and this is what I think are the measurements:

Tire Lock Bracket.jpg

Duplicating the original with the angled portion spot welded to the long piece might be an overkill. I will use a 3/16" plate instead and "T" weld it to the long piece. Probably do everything in 3/16" for ease of sourcing materials.

Awesome Esteban! What do you think the radius is on those corners (while your at it)? 1/4"? maybe 3/8"?

I was thinking I would do the two part thing and then plug weld the two together. Grind smooth for a spot weld look.

As the drawing is now, the radius of the corners is 3/8". Sorry that I forgot that!

Your idea of the spot weld looks great!

The third photo in Davis’s sequence shows the heavyly bent piece next to the ruler, begin at ~1-3/4” and ending at 8”. There alone you have 6-1/4”. Iron the puece and you’ll get aprox. 7-1/2”.

I used a tape and traced over the arched shape, and the resulting length superimposed over the same ruler in the photo and got the 7-1/2”. Checking the tire carrier, 7” looks more realistic.

What I did was extend the virtual intersection of the corners of the piece to where it intersects upon the paper. Then extend a virtual line perpendicular to the ruler to the intersection. Then I laid a usb cable along the path to come up with a measurement that I scaled off of the ruler in the photo. If you do it that way the actual straight length goes from about 2" to 7-1/2" (5-1/2"). Add in the curve and and you get about 6" or so. If you scale off of the top of the piece, perspective will make it seem longer. So we need David to run a tape measure down that thing to get us a real number. It seems that perspective can change the perceived length.
