The hard to find original Carbs

Original and compatible parts

Postby Mantonis75 » Thu Mar 16, 2023 1:19 pm

I am getting ready to rebuild my original VHA carb from my 1977 GL60 Patrol and stumbled upon a (that is making it sound MUCH easier than it was) NOS VHA carb and VC42 carb. I know my air cleaner is made for the VHA, but felt like I couldn't turn down a really nice VC42. Hopefully this get her back to being road worthy!!

You can probably find the correct air filter for the VC42 carb (I have one or two). Worth it, it's a great running carb.

I technically now have a NOS VHA and VC42 (not including the rebuilding of my current VHA carb), what would you recommend installing?

I haven't driven one with the VHA before so I couldn't offer an opinion. I've held one in my hand and it is bigger yet lighter than the VC42, I form unsubstantiated opinions about the quality from that.

I have three VC42s running.I love and trust them. If you can trust your carb it will keep out of the garb.

Rebuild kits aren't that hard to find either.

Ok, I’m officially turning into a junkie!! I came across another perfect VHA carb, so I picked it up. My goal is to rebuild my old one and install the new VHA (and have a spare just in case). Finally got around to opening the box with the VC42 and was so excited, looks like it came out of the factory yesterday, weren’t lying when they called it NOS. As much as I want to stick with what was on it (the VHA), the VC42 is definitely a work of art (amazingly well built considering when it was designed). May look at tracking down the correct air filter housing, just to swap out carbs down the road.
Definitely needed the replacement VHA (until I rebuild my existing one), but not sure what made me buy the additional VHA or VC42. Being a newbie to Patrols, these really suck you in. Of all my toys, the Patrol definitely has a unique and exciting appeal.
On another note, the help, information and excitement on this forum is awesome!! I almost considered selling my rig until I found this. Thanks to you all.
