Removal of 1966 G60 Front Guards

Post by G60michael »

Well as of this Tuesday Coming the new guards for my 1966 G60 will be travelling from Victoria up to here. So this arvo I decided to Start Removing the old guards.

Whats the easiest way to remove them front the firewall, I have removed 4/5 of the boths that go to the Firewall, but cannont access the other one as it jammed between the firewall and Footwell air Vent box.

I noticed the Footwell air Vent Box (Between outside of guard and the Kick panel) has 2 Bolts on the bottom side and 2 other bolts at the Top,Does the Box Separate to access the Last bolt I need removed ?

In other words Whats the simpliest way to remove the old Front Guards (fenders)

On the early models you can remove the vent tunnel to access those bolts. Here is a post where the member just went through the same process: http://www.60patrol.com/forum/viewtopic ... 6&start=15

One of my vent tunnels was held in there with bondo, the other just popped out. I ended up just using a saws all to cut off the two cowl bolts hidden by the vents.. I'd have put more effort into it but my replacement "guards" had those holes deleted and the vent tunnels welded to the fenders..
(insert clever saying here)

Removing the bolts from the vent tunnel is the only way to remove the tunnel while the guard is still in place, unless you just cut the bolts. Otherwise, you could get a very long wrench to get to the bolts that are behind the vent tunnel.

I used both my extension drives, my wrench was out at the front wheel.
