What he has done is purchase a big veterinarian use syringe (think cattle) and use it to send the fluid upwards from the bleeder to the Master Cylinder. In fact, I gave him my Mighty Vac when I moved to the States, and it's collecting dust.
On the other hand, I only use the Mighty Vac. No more going out of sync with my wife when she's helping me bleed the brakes, and the mandatory cursing that follows (

)I like this approach better, since in theory, you are taking out all the aged fluid beginning with the master cylinder, and sending it out through the bleeders. On the push method, you might send some debris from the wheel cylinders that could end up in the master cylinder.
