Pertronix distributor

Distributor came today... 4 cylinder British BMC engine (as I suspected)

Return label in hand- back to the Fedex store tomorrow morning.

This weekend I'll pull my WP distributor and take a good look, and if the shaft looks good then I'll just order the Pertronix module, some new wires, and the 45KV coil to convert it myself.

and since others might someday find this thread in a future search for electronic ignition- I'm going to make the important note that anyone who has the original spark plug wires on their 60 model Patrol (like I do) might want to replace them with non-metal carbon core plug wires if they upgrade to the Pertronix electronic ignition -Pertronix does not recommend solid core wires with their modules. A lot of folks online say they have done it without issues, but it only takes one amperage spike on one pulse to fry the module, so I personally won't take the risk.

there is a guy on 311s.org that makes up an electronic dizzy for our roadsters, and i wonder if he couldn't do the same for the patrols.

This brand Hot-Spark has been at it for a few years. Not sure if it fits Patrols but looks like it does......6-cylinder Hitachi diz $70.

It will fit Patrols with the non-water protect distributor after 68.

Points on the Z cars and other Datsuns were the same.

I've been using the Pertronix kit for 4 years now, 6k miles without a glitch.

What changed in '68 that this wouldn't work on earlier years? The generator to alternator change? This is interesting, I have never considered this.

The standard distributor was changed around 68. Not quite sure when. My 65 came with the previous one, non-WP type. It used to have a two part contact points. Around 72 I changed to the "newer" model, that remained in use long after that including in the P40 engine. Nissan uses the same contact points for all their models. This was a single part contact points.

I'm sure that Pancho might still keep around the old type distributor. I'll ask him to post some pics.
