Fuel pump rebuild or leave it be

Won't run? Engine, cooling system, fuel pump, carb, clutch, tranny, brakes, etc. The old messages from the NPCA 'Engine & Mechanical' category are here.

Fuel pump rebuild or leave it be

Post by norville »

So I was playing with the plow patrol today(wife is out) For as long as I've know it, the PP had an electric fuel pump but the stock one is still there. So while it was running the patrol the mechanical pump is still sucking and blowing while it's running. I'm not sure why the PO put on the electric but I'd like to go back to the mechanical. I'm thinking maybe there was a drain back issue? Or something not related to the pump but the pump was eliminated.. My temptation is to plug it back in and drive but I know it's never that easy.. Is there a rebuild kit out there. This is the style with manual pump on it .. Is my thinking right ? as soon as gas hits that old dried out gasket it will be gone..? Honestly this is low priority, but it's on my mind..

Swerve used to be able to get the rebuild kits for them The Nissan kit is part number 17010-58026. There was also a Goss kit in OZ available for the early fuel pumps, part number 919KT. As I recall the Nissan kit was cheaper than the Goss kit. Neither are available in the US.
Beyond any hope for intervention

You may want to call Rick at Royze (www.royze.com). I spoke to him last year and he said he may have a diaprham for the fuel pump.

Also, tryl Chris at MaritimeDragRacing (http://www.maritimedragracing.com/then_ ... motive.htm)

I still have some kits, but need to find them ? still interested ? if so I need you to measure the diaghram length of the shaft, is 1" 1/4 or something. There are two different lengths.

If you don't decide to rebuild the old mechanicial one,and want to sell it ill buy it ifs its a primer one. Rob of rmp-o has an electric pump on his 69 G60 as the mechanical one leaks fuel into the Crankcase contaminating the oil.

If your isn't leaking into the Sump why not just plum the fuel line from the electric pump into the inlet of the mechanical pump, if you didn't tell any one the Original mechanical one didn't work no one would ever know :D
