Exhausts manifolds, How Hot ?

Hi guys I painted up the whole engine in the 66, I painted the Intake the same as the Block with White Knight Paint. The intake manifold doesn't really get hot so that paint will do the job.

What I need to know so I can paint the exhaust manifold before refitting it to the engine, is how hot the approx. temperature of the exhaust manifold is ?

I tried 500oF Paint or 260oC and it burnt off

Not sure on a patrol, a lot depends on how well you have your mixture set on the carby.

What you need is something like vht flameproof its designed for painting headers. Variety of colours even one thats suppose to look like its freshly cast manifold again

Did you paint the intake and the exhaust? I have not had much luck with exhaust paint in the past on the exhaust manifold but end up having it ceramic coated.

I bought some Hooker headers for my '74 F250 crewcab that had a ceramic coating that has been the best finish I have seen on an exhaust but even they are mottled now. I think it is a reality of a real driver.
The VHT worked great in my eyes and if I had not used engine cleaner nor let gas spew out the carb when working on it, it would not be streaked. I think a sandblasted exhaust with high temp 1200* matte clear would be a smart move, if they make it.
