VC42 Adjustments

Hi Guys, can someone please tell me how to adjust the float in the VC42's as mine is overfilling, Cheers

Michael, in the Patrolabilia section, you have the old Engine Service Manual, that includes adjusting the VC42 carburetor. You probably have this manual downloaded already.

Adjusting the Fuel Level is covered in pages 85 and 86 (printed at the bottom of each page).

Check first the distance that you have, as mentioned in the Manual. Should be 20 to 22 mm (13/16" to 7/8"). Please note that if you are having overfilling issues, the needle might be at fault.
Is the level on the glass sight way above?
Is the carb flooding?

Steps from the Manual
1) First remove the fuel pipe from the float chamber cover.

2) Remove the three float-chamber cover screws, and take off the cover.
Turn carburetor cover upside down so that the float is on top, and the float
needle valve is held in its closed position by the weight of the float.

3) Lift the float with a finger, then gently lower it until the flap-like contact
plate of the float just touches the upper end of the needle valve and hold the
float in this position without pressing down on the needle valve spring.

4) With the float in this position, check the distance between the lower
surface of the end of the float and the upper surface of the chamber cover.
If this distance is from 20 to 22 mm. the adjustment is correct.

5) If not. extract the float holding pin, remove the float, and adjust the
angle of the contact plate as shown in the photograph. Be careful in
making this adjustment because, if the bending is forced, the arm may
be broken off from the float. Also because the needle valve is not
headed, be careful not to let it drop out together with its spring.

6) Check the seating of the needle valve to the valve seat. If leakage exists,
replace the needle valve assembly.

Please note that when the cover is upside down, you are not letting the float rest on its own weight when making the measurement, but rather making the tab in the float just touch the needle valve.
