1st drive was successful, but a bit noisy
Hi, I finally drove my patrol around the block. It seemed to ride pretty good. But it seemed to be pretty noisy at rear end. Does that sound typical or should I check something?

Yayyy!!!
Have you checked the oil levels? First suspect would be axle bearings. Do the wheels get hot at the axle?
It could also be the tires.

Beyond any hope for intervention

Gary, it shouldn't be noisy. Specially at low speeds, like up to 40 mph. As RiverPatrol suggests, check the oil levels at the differential, transmission, and transfer case.
You should get a "mechanic's stethoscope": www.harborfreight.com/mechanics-stethoscope-41966.html
Raise the rear of the Patrol and support on good jack stands. Then try to hear for noise at the wheel bearings (back of the brake plate, bearing housing) and also at the differential. Hope it is a minor issue.

Re: 1st drive was successful, but a bit noisy
The oil levels are good. The cover for the transmission is currently not installed so that could explain some noise. Plus I have the muffler attached with clamps as I havent driven it to muffler shop yet. The tires are 33s in good shape but probably make noise, plus the rear doors are off. Besides that its quite fun to drive!
