Does anyone have a starter laying around??? I put the distributor in and was fine tuning it...it was COLD outside and having to restart it all the time to keep tweaking it finally did the starter in. The starter has always turned slow since I have owned it but figured it was compression...maybe I was wrong. Just so everyone knows and maybe everyone already does the helmar starter for the P40 does not work on a Patrol...I went that route already and the bellhousing and flywheels are totally different.

I have found that if the distributor drive gear is off by one tooth that it will cause the starter to crank slowly. You couldn't score a starter from the '62/'63 you just raped?

Nope. The 62/63 had no engine, tranny, or t case... but that's why we got it for $200 with the title and soft top frame.
