Weber carb on a patrol?

I have seen some adapters to put weber carbs on other straight six's that use the same carbs. Has anyone on here tried that and if so how well did that perform? Today I did some tinkering on my patrol and it has a carter on it and the shaft that runs through with the butterfly's moves up/down/side/side about 1/16th of a inch...I think its time for a new carb and I have plenty of webers laying around for other projects but this is at the top of the list right now. For $30 I think it is worth a try.

That would be cool! But I think this should be made into a science experiment -- gather some baseline performance stats before you make the change: time your Patrol's performance going from 0-to-60 or up a hill a few times. Repeat the tests with the new Carb in place.

Anyway, I think it would be interesting.

Wylder1324 has a new Weber on his, I remember the previous owner doing the install. As I recall there was an adapter plate for it. The particular model on his was supposedly the only one that would work for a Patrol. I think he had to rework the linkage.

Thanks a bunch for your help. I can't really do a good performance comparison without getting another good carb and trying it and then the weber...then I may as well leave one of them on that runs good. My carb is so worn out that it sucks so much air that in order for it run very good at all you have to have the choke partially on and the performance isn't there. The Clifford performance home page works but the "online catalog part doesn't so I may just try the adapter I found and maybe rework some holes if I have to.

I believe, Zach (aka. ZachandChristie from RMP&O), the previous owner of Wylder's Patrol put a Weber on his. Said it ran better than it ever had. Don't remember the details.
Maybe Wylder3124 can give us some pictures.

Thanks a bunch dawg. I will have to give him a nudge and see what he has to say. I very rarely have good ideas but have always had good luck with webers on my old Datsun pickups and thought it might be a good idea to put one on the patrol. Thanks again for turning me in that direction.

I have installed webers on a lot of inline 6 engine, and they have always improved the performance. Im sure the Patrol wont be an exception.

Well it looks like I am going to order the adapter for the weber within the next week. I will post my results once I am done along with any other useful info I that others may need. Thanks for all the replies and info.

I'll follow your results and decide if I want to go this route also. The Webber itself is quite expensive.

$1,100 for a roadster, and from what i read it really makes a huge difference in that engine. it is on my to do list for the roadster.
