New Patrol Owner in Las Vegas

Post by XploreNV »

Greetings everyone!

I have been hunting down a patrol in Alamo, Nv for the last 7 years. It was sitting in the back yard of some people's property just rotting away. I visited them from time to time trying to convince them that they needed to sell it to me but was always met with quite a bit of resistance. One day I went back and saw it wasn't there anymore. I found out they had sold it for a quarter of what I had offered to them!

Last week I found one for sale on CL here in Las Vegas and was able to pick it up. The Previous owner said he was on here quite a bit. Evidently his Username was "Chucks67".

Here are a few Pictures of it in its current state. The Patrol does run and drive but has some definite things that will need to be addressed so I will be tidying it up a bit over the next month or so.

Here you can see the cancer near the tire carrier and left quarter panel that will need to be addressed.

Welcome to 60Patrol! :text-welcomeconfetti: You've come to the right place for all of the Patrol information you need. :D

Sucks about the other Patrol. I wonder who ended up with it? You're probably better off with this one, this Patrol has had some recent attention given to it and has a lot of potential. It ws owned by another member here before - NefariousCam. So I'm sure you're ahead of the game with this one mechanically. Body work is almost always needed on a Patrol.

What are your plans for it?

Well first of all, I would like to make everything functional on the vehicle. Currently there are several lights including the turn indicators that don't work. The rubber body mounts are completely shot and will need replaced. I'm going to cut out the rust on the left quarter panel and also behind the spare tire carrier and weld in non rusty metal.

I've already been working on trying to bang out some of the bigger dents with a sheet metal hammer. I cut the valance off last night in order to get behind the grill area to hammer a large dent out.

I am going to build some bumpers and a simple roll cage, mainly to be able to run a bikini top. (Chuck told me he had the top for it and to come get it out of his shop) but I like the idea of a bikini top better.

It seems like the T-Case Engages but I don't think it is getting power to the wheels so I will probably take both locking hubs apart and see what is the matter with those.

Other than all that I will give it a coat of paint on the body (If I am feeling adventurous I will paint the frame when I have the body off for the mounts)

I'd like to be able to take it into the desert with my 2 month old son (he should be old enough by the time I finish all this stuff lol) I like to explore the Nevada back country and normally I use an ATV but there are a lot of areas that are either conservation areas like the Desert National Wildlife Range or national Recreation areas like Lake Mead / Colorado River where ATVs and other vehicles with no "license plate" are not permitted to ride. While I do not agree with the logic behind these rules, I am not simply going to buckle over and not enjoy these areas. The patrol might not offer quite as smooth a ride as my Sportsman 500, or be able to get anywhere nearly as fast, it still has a lot of character and potential and will be a lot of fun exploring around in. :)

Wish me luck!

That's a good plan list. That Patrol will be perfect for what you want to use it for. If it didn't come with the rear fold down seats you should be able to find a set easily enough I've seen people install seat belts for the rear seats so the kiddos are secured in - good idea.

Looks like you're not afraid to tackle metal work; that's a definite plus. No need for any fancy paint work for exploring the desert, unless you want to.

Nice. This Patrol deserves to be useful again. I could see the potential in it when Cam first rescued it. Keep us posted! :D

Welcome, and if you do not want the top I might could squeeze it in the yard after I chop up the bed off my truck.
