I bought a 67 Patrol about a month ago. I have been lurking on this forum getting some insight into what I have gotten myself into. The Patrol is in okay condition. I bought it from a guy who had let it sit for three years. He got it from a friend who had tore into it a bit. There is basically no wiring, no radiator, no coil, no fuel lines, etc so I haven't been able to fire it up yet. The passenger front hub was torn apart when I got it. The wheel was loose on the hub. I took it apart and found that the spacers were gone and it is missing one of the spindle nuts. I tried to find the parts, but they were in AUS and were more than i wanted to spend just to get it rolling. My dad is a machinist so I took the driver's side apart and had him copy the spacers i needed and got it rolling on all four wheels. (I am still looking for the second spindle nut.) At least one of the brake lines is cut and they are all disconnected. I have not torn into the wheel cylinders yet, but the pads look okay. There also was no front bumper, so I made a simple one to put the tow bar on. I will make some modifications to this eventually too.
My plan is to take it apart, cut out and replace the rusted parts of the panels, probably coat the underside and inside of the tub with a liner, repaint the body (probably the same blue/white colors), clean up and coat the frame and put it back together, paint the engine, etc... I am hoping the drive train is in decent condition and wont require rebuilding yet. Really what I want is a good ol' reliable rig that can go a good amount of places and have fun with.
Things I would like to replace first to get it running: (if you happen to have any of these let me know!
-Radiator (I am losing hope at finding an original one and have found this aluminum one that seems like it will fit http://www.summitracing.com/parts/sum-380419)
-Coil (I am wondering if the Pertronix 45,000 volt coil would work with the waterproof distributor or if it is too much?)
-Spindle nut (as far as i can tell it is a M45x1.5, but i haven't found a replacement yet.)
-Crank pulley nut (not sure why that is gone, but I haven't been able to locate a replacement yet.)
Things to do before it is drivable:
-Brake lines
-Front passenger wheel brake cylinders
-Generator rebuilt
-Run Wiring
-Front blinkers and rear tails (thinking possibly going with LEDs 2" or 3" rounds. possibly http://www.amazon.com/Round-Surface-Mou ... =pd_ybh_22)
-New passenger door hinges (both were broken when I got it, but i was able to drill out and put a new pin in one of them. the other is completely broken.)
-Front seats reupholstered
-Get it registered (it was registered here in Utah in 2010**, but the guy i bought it from did not have a title. I am hoping i can submit for a duplicate with my bill of sale.)
** There is a sticker on the back that says it was sold from a Nissan dealer here in Utah. I'll have to do more research about that.
I'm sure I am forgetting a lot of other things but those are the basics. I would love some input about replacement parts and upgrades I can make as I go.
Some questions I have are:
1. Do Chevy 6 x 5.5 wheels fit over the hubs? I found a set of four wheels and tires for a good deal but am not sure if they will fit.
2. How are the two brake cylinders tied together? Does the main line come into the top cylinder, then another line runs to the bottom one?
3. Is there a diagram/pics for routing the radiator hoses with the heater core?
I think I got a great deal on this beast(a lot less than $1000) and I am really excited to start working. We are about to move so this has been put on the back burner, however, I have lots of ideas and plans and hope to get her going soon. I am sure I will be posting more and asking lots of questions when the work starts.
Thanks!
-Phil
