Re: Fuel pump leak
Yes I will try and get a photo of it today. I also pulled the top off for the first time since installing my roof rack yesterday, I'll post some pics of this as well.

Re: Fuel pump leak
Has anyone ever tried this one on a Patrol? Only 52 bucks.
Doesn;t match the PAtrol pump, but it says it's for NIssan forklifts, and the flange looks like it might fit:

Re: Fuel pump leak
Interesting. I wonder if it could be taken apart and the internal parts used as a rebuild kit for a stock pump with the primer handle. Or better yet, if the parts would work, is a rebuild kit available for this pump? Just mullin' stuff around my head.moore_rb wrote:Has anyone ever tried this one on a Patrol? Only 52 bucks.

Re: Fuel pump leak
I found that the fuel pump corresponds to a 4 cyl Nissan engine, model K15, with only 1.5L, so I won't try it. It also fits engine K21 of 2.1L. Too small compared with the 4.0L of the P engine.waltinamboy wrote:Interesting. The hand primer is an excellent feature of the early fuel pumps, specially when the vehicle is not moved for more than 2 or 3 weeks, but I'll guess that it will be very difficult to find the perfect kit to handle that feature.

Re: Fuel pump leak
I found a place to get our fuel pumps rebuilt and wanted to share it with everyone. It is the Antique Auto Parts Cellar in Waymouth, Ma. Web Address: http://dragsite.tripod.com/antique_auto ... cellar.htm. They don't offer a kit, but they will rebuild an old one. I sent mine in and they turned it around in one day. It's still en-route to me and I'm anxiously waiting to be able to install and try it out. The actual rebuilder is Mike, and he has been very responsive and helpful. Their email is: OUR32@aol.com.
The $95 + shipping cost seemed a little high at first, but when I took into consideration that I was having absolutely no luck finding either a new one or anyone to rebuild mine, the price got pretty reasonable pretty quickly. AND I still have the manual primer intact. I spent several hours at my local NAPA and O'Reilly stores trying to find an alternate and came up completely empty. Then it was about a day and a half of searching the internet before I found these folks.
Note: I just received my pump, and they apparently are also under the name, "Then & Now Automotive".

Re: Fuel pump leak
$95 actually seems reasonable to me for having an OE pump rebuilt- I would assume it to be at least a couple hours of labor.
The cheapest I was able to find one of the compatible P40 pumps (the part number that Esteban provided further up in this thread) was $133 plus shipping from one of the forklift supply companies.
I think it all comes down to cost, versus personal preference for originality versus non-originality, or personal preference for mechanical (silent, but more prone to unexpected failure), versus electric (noisier, but more reliable).
a good electric pump (like a Carter P4070) is also going to cost close to $100 (notice I said a good one- I realize there are cheaper, but lesser quality, electric fuel pumps out there).
So the decision comes down to which way you want to go, or maybe it comes down to a coin toss

Re: Fuel pump leak
I agree. That's not a bad price to rebuild a fuel pump that you can't replace for less. There used to be another company out east that rebuilt them also, I think they were called Then and Now or something like that. Good information to have, thanks!
Beyond any hope for intervention

X2
Good comments Robert. I guess that the ability to conserve the hand primer might be crucial or a must for some. I miss it every time when more than 3 weeks have passed without starting the engine.
Leslie, once you open the link you'll notice that it is in fact "Now and Then Automotive"
