So I guess I need to educate myself on the make up of a shock and learn all the differences that make KYB hands down better. I definitely want the best for my money and time. I guess they lost me when I did not take the time to cross reference like Esteban did.
What convinced you that KYB is a better product? Materials, precision milling, higher standards of longevity, product name?
I've done some poking around and found.....
.....I also have seen steering damper shocks with a KAYABA stamp. This is KYB. Japanese company using Indonesia Spain Malasia and now China for auto shocks with Vietnam making motorcycle shocks.
Their main cry for a better product is:
Monotube design for higher demands than Twintube types that came factory original.
Twintube type shocks are standard and fine for normal applications but evidently KYB has a Monotube design that has a quicker response rate has no performance fade due to aeration. It uses a single fluid valve in the moving piston while a second piston separates the fluid from a high pressure nitrogen gas chamber. This enables a faster responsiveness than Twintubenshocks. Twins have two chambers (outside and inside) and two valves, one controls the rebound and the other controls the compression with low pressure nitro gas in the whole unit to reduce air exposure.
They do have the data in detail by part # in Product Information, KYB Shock Dimensions at www.kyb.com
While this does not convince me that another company out there has an equal or superior Monotube product, I will rely on that you, Esteban/River/2869ral, know way more than me.
