fuel filler woes

Hey Stan, I am very interested in your Patrol. If I knew that it was still available I would almost say you have a definite sale with me. My name is Zack Lindsey. I have been looking for a Patrol to fit my budget for about 7 weeks now. I have come close to buying one, but I just can't seem to find one to fit my budget. You see, I just graduated from high school and will be going to college in the fall. I want a unique car that gets decent gas mileage. I found one of these and became immediately hooked on them. I was wondering if you could send me some more pictures of your cruiser and all details I would need to know. I have the same problem, when I took my tank off to be cleaned I discovered it has baffles built in it. That would account for the slow fill as the fuel has only a small area to flow through while filling each section of the tank as it is divided into three sections. The baffles keep the fuel from running out when you are on an incline so it only makes sense that it would also have the opposite effect when filling up. Had a 67 scout and fuel would splash out the neck all of the time, it drove me crazy. Haven't had that problem with the patrol. Vern

well if you pull out the nozzle alittle and it still does it pull the nozzle till it hits the top of the nozzle allmost out it will still fill up the tank like it should i have a 64 and it has never did any of these things its weird that everyone has as much problems with there patrols i havnt had one yet

All of you guys have just popped my ballon. I thought I had something unique on my '69 with the very slow gas tank fill rate. Although speed varies with gas pumps I have found that turning the nozzle upside down is the fastest. I start out very slow and slowly increase gas flow. Most of the time I can eventually fill-up at the fastest speed. (but not always). The slow fill is cool though. I can answer all those questions, like; no it's not an old Land Rover, yes it is old and please don't touch it I can't get replacement parts.

Just had my tank cleaned and reinstalled it. It filled just fine in fact it filled so fast some fuel spit out of the neck when she was done. Vern

Hey I too had a problem filling both my Patrols. All that seemed to be happening is the air in the tank can't get out fast enough to let the gas in. There should be a breather tube coming from the tank. First check that it isn't plugged, but then check where it breaths to. It should come out in the end of the filler neck. If you look inside you should see a little plate covering the hole. It is obviously there to prevent gas from going in the breather tube while filling. Both of mine were bent in and pretty much smothering the breather hole, which most likely happens by putting pressure on the nozzle while filling. All I did was stuck a screwdriver in it and pryed it open a bit, and now they both work fine. Hope this can help all of you.
