67 Patrol semi refurbish

Got a bit more work done on the Patrol this weekend. I found the original tail lights, but the little rubber bomb housing boots were both torn so I just installed some aftermarket tail lights just to make it drivable. Also painted and installed the spare tire carrier which required some drilling from where I replaced the metal on the back panel. I taped off the roof and painted it tan.

I tried to install the new speedometer i got but the mounting tabs on it were opposite from the one I have. Also, the new cable I ordered seemed to be able to work with my old speedo, but seemed completely wrong for the new speedo I got.

Tail lights and brake lights are working but turn signals are not working... I'll track down that switch another time.. Just need to get the windows in and some mirrors... Any ideas on side mirrors to make this thing street legal?

Yeah, the speedometer dilemma. In '69 the speedo moved to the other side of the steering column, so the tabs switched positions. Sometime time in early '65 the drive on the speedo head changed from male to female, or vise versa. So it's always a challenge when replacing one if you don't know what you've got to work with.

The turn signal issue could just be a flasher, or perhaps the aftermarket tail lights. The stock lights are a 2 wire system.

Your Patrol is looking good and you've done great progress. Congratulations!

I changed my speedo years ago as you've done. To correct the angle of the mounting tabs, y carefully separated them from the base of the speedo, and then used an epoxy compound to secure them in the proper location for the new angle needed. Take your time figuring what the angle has to be. I think that the parts manual has a page of what this angles are. Will check and post later.

Your Patrol looks like its coming along really well , wish i could get as much progress done on mine. Sorry to here the speedo didn't go straight in , I have the backing plate the speedo fits into and a speedo cable as well, let me know if they will help you out and i will get them over to you.

Kind of... I don't know where I'd put them but I think it would be cool to run them some day assuming I can find tires for them and someone to mount / balance them. I want to take her to cars and coffee this weekend, we'll see how that goes. I haven't had her any further than the gas station down the road from my house other than towing it around.

I did get the side sliding windows installed.. yippee
