Some rig pics and some neat stuff that came with it!

Post by offroadkid »

So we took ownership of our (for now unnamed) rig on March 1. Last Saturday we took her down a nice road not too far from the house that is just rolling green hills with oak trees. If you've seen the "Real California MilK" commercials with the cows, it's the same setting! She looks really good from this distance, but does need some fixing (I think there used to be mirrors on the doors and it looks like someone tried to patch up the holes) and eventually I'd love to give her a factory color. There's a couple different shades of what appears to be rattle can yellow!!

In addition to the great rig I was able to buy from my friend was this great vintage parts manual! The story is my buddy's first job was at Downtown Datsun in San Jose, (now home to the San Jose Sharks Arena) as a Parts Driver, then later promoted to Parts Counterperson. He told this story over dinner the other night when he presented me with the manual! He told us that some old guy came in and told him he needed some parts for his Patrol and of course my friend had no idea what he was talking about and told the customer that!! The old guy said, "Look kid...look under the counter in front of your stool and you'll find a big blue binder with all the diagrams and parts for Nissan Patrols!"

My friend was amazed, and he said he studied the manual and afterwards always knew he wanted to eventually own one. So, he did eventually get one and kept the manual when the dealership was demolished to accommodate the new hockey arena!!

I know there is a lot of scanned and uploaded literature in here, (most of them now saved in my iBooks on my iPad) but I didn't know if anyone had access to this cool manual? Something tells me, I can't be the only one!!

Very nice pictures, thanks for sharing. The yellow of the Patrol and the green fields contrast nicely.

Nice score on the parts manual. There are a few parts manuals here on the forum for download, I don't know if we have this exact one though. It looks like a pre-1970 manual. It would be nice to have it scanned in and available for download. One can never have enough parts manuals, of course. ;)

Thanks for the kind words! I agree this should be scanned so that I may share it with everyone here as I will be asking a lot of questions to learn as much as I can about my Patrol.

Some of the pages are dated 1968, some 1969, some 1970... I would have no idea how to scan so many pages and upload them to the forum. I'm a little afraid of removing them one by one from the binder. They are neat though, a couple of the parts guys here at the Mercedes-Bens Dealership I'm a tech at used to be parts guys for Nissan and were thrilled to flip through the page! One of them told me that you can't get special wax coated paper like this anymore!

I agree, they are very cool to page through. Reminds me of my dealership days, which were pre-microfiche. ;)

There are places that will scan it for you. Runs a bit of coin though.

I would not mind at all posting pics of pages if people need to see something! I know it's not the same as having it already downloaded...

My Dad bought a little green Datsun 1200 from Downtown Datsun in San Jose... My older sister wrecked it. The little car held up well in the crash... My sister walked away.

Cool Patrol, I scored the same parts book in 1 of the Patrols glove boxes I bought but the binding was u/s and had a couple of pages missing, only good point is it is easy to scan as I cant make it any worse.
